A. C. Luffman and Elda (Anderson) Luffman. Images 0010 and 352 in the Landis Record are of A. C. Luffman and Elda (Anderson) Luffman. James and Gertrude Anderson, moved from Ontario to Manitoba, and then to Star City, SK in 1928. James owned a tinshop and was active active in the local life, ie: rink committeee, curling club, town council. etc. Arthur Claude Luffman met Elda Anderson at Star City, when he came to help out a local minister who was ill. They eventually were married in Saskatoon, in 1938. Elda was his 2nd wife, his first having died many years before. He was the owner, at one time of the paper The Landis Record. Mr. Luffman was publisher from 1937 to 1946. He is the one who, during the war served the community, and a couple of other districts, as their minister (except to perform marriages). Image 453 about the history of Landis Branch #198 The Royal Canadian Legion in the Landis Record mentions Harry Luffman. This was the son Lt. G. H. LUFFMAN who was killed in 1944, shortly after D-Day and is buried in France. After his son, by his first marriage was killed in World War II, A. C. Luffman returned to the ministry, which he had left at the time of the union of the United Church, and he and his wife moved to Ontario. |
