These are photographs of the three one room schools at which our mother Hertha McRae (Schwandt) taught between 1932 and 1941. Valley Centre - Duval circa 1932 Mount Hill - Strasbourg - circa 1937 Talmage - Talmage circa 1940 I have a very tattered scrap book titled "Teaching Days".Below are several class photos from the 3 one room schools in which she taught. Many of the students are identified on the back. By the way she was not only my mother she also taught me in grades 4 and 5 in the larger new '4' room school in Talmage. Interestingly the centralized school which took in 7 one room schools only lasted 10 years (1954 to 1966). Much less than the one room schools it replaced. Those were by the way, Rainton, Verschoyle, Wheaton, Auburndale, Killean, Schneider, and Ideal. Regards Stuart McRae There is also a poem called "Another IF for Teachers" by James F.
