There were actually two schools in Pontrilas when I attended school there, from 1966 to 1968. The small one room school held grades 1 and 2. The larger school held grades 3-6 and 7-12. Starting in 1969, we all ended up being bussed to Codette and Nipawin and the schools were closed. The same merry-go-round circa 1944 can be found in a virtual museum photo at Pontrilas merry-go-round. And the same merry-go-round in 2007, now located in Codette, SK with my mother, sister, and children enjoying a ride. We would have six people inside pushing and 10 or 15 of us riding. The braver kids would climb to the “goose egg” on top, or hang on to the small bars coming off the top and lift our feet and fly!
