REV. HENRY WALLACE.
Since February, 1921, Rev. Henry Wallace has been secretary-treas-
urer of the diocese of Saskatchewan. His birth occurred in Lincoln-
shire, England, on the 7th of April, 1856, his parents being Thomas and
Elizabeth Wallace, the former a lay preacher in the Wesleyan cause.
Mrs. Wallace died when their son Henry was four years of age and the
latter was reared to young manhood by an aunt who resided near Brigg,
Lincolnshire, and was an earnest and devoted churchwoman.
Henry Wallace obtained a grammar school education at Brigg and
after putting aside his textbooks turned his attention to the grocery
business. About two decades ago he crossed the Atlantic to Canada and
took up a homestead near Perdue, Saskatchewan. He was converted
under the ministry of Rev. J. B. Gibson and was subsequently made a
lay reader. Removing to Saskatoon, he served successively as collector,
outside cashier and finally cashier for the council of that city but gave up
the last named position in 1921 to assume his present duties as secretary
treasurer of the diocese of Saskatchewan, having been ordained deacon
two years previous. On the 21st of December, 1922, he was ordained
a priest.
On the 4th of October, 1898, in England, Mr. Wallace was married to
Miss Jessie Gregory, a daughter of Frank Gregory and a representative
of a family whose members are stanch supporters of the Church of Eng-
land. Her brother, Frank E. Gregory, a musician of more than ordinary
ability, is organist at Christ church of Alverstoke, England. Rev. and
Mrs. Henry Wallace are the parents of two children: Norman Gregory,
who was the first King's Scout in Saskatchewan; and Douglas Gregory.
