JAMES PETER ROONEY.
Commercial progress and prosperity are conserved through the efforts of such enterprising and reliable business men as James Peter Rooney, who is engaged in the drug business in Swift Current. He was born in the province of Ontario, on the 8th of April, 1881, a son of Edward and Rosanne (Doris) Rooney. Mr. and Mrs. Rooney moved from Ontario with their family to the United States, settling in North Dakota, where they lived for ten years. They then returned to Canada, settling in Manitoba and subsequently came to Saskatchewan, where they have lived for the past twenty years. Mr. Rooney was engaged in farming in the Estevan district and was very successful as an agriculturist. He is now living retired in Estevan, a highly respected and esteemed citizen. In the pursuit of his education James Peter Rooney attended the public schools of Manitoba and was graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1905. He there took up the study of pharmacy and immediately after graduation set about to put his training into practical experience. In 1908 he located in Swift Current, establishing a drug store. He has been very successful in the conduct of this enterprise and has an extensive and high class patronage. In Brandon, in 1911, Mr. Rooney was married to Miss Ada Hughes, a native of Kingston, Ontario. To them three children have been born: John, James Peter, Jr., and Phillip Francis. Mrs. Rooney is a woman of culture and refinement and she maintains an active interest in the club and social circles of this community. The Rooneys are consistent com- municants of the Catholic church. Mr. Rooney is an active member of the Rotary Club and of the Board of Trade. He is essentially public-spirited, being ever mindful of the duties and responsibilities as well as the priv- ileges of good citizenship. For recreation from his business duties he turns to outdoor sports and he is a member of two golf clubs. Bibliography follows:
