GEORGE WILLIAM RENNER.
George William Renner, grain buyer, has been engaged in this line of
work since 1920. He was born in Norfolk county, Ontario, in May, 1870,
a son of George H. and Elizabeth (Barber) Renner, natives of Ontario.
The father engaged in farming in Norfolk county throughout his life and
his death occurred there in April, 1901. Mrs. Renner died in June, 1894.
The rural schools of Norfolk county afforded George William Renner
his education and in due time he was graduated from the high school at
Hagersville, Ontario. In 1889, when twenty years of age, he came west
and located at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, where he worked on a farm
for two years. He then went to Brandon, Manitoba, and for ten years
worked at the carpenter's trade, and also ventured into the grain busi-
ness. In 1901 he came to where Tisdale now stands and took a homestead
a half mile north of the town, which was started in 1904. He farmed that
land until 1910, when he disposed of it and went into the implement busi-
ness and also bought grain. Later he disposed of the implement business
and has since devoted his entire time and attention to his duties as a
grain buyer.
In November, 1899, Mr. Renner was married to Miss Rachael Hans
and they became parents of three children: George, Allie and Arthur.
Mrs. Renner died in September, 1911, after an illness of two years. Since
attaining his majority Mr. Renner has followed an independent course in
politics, giving his support to the man he thinks best fitted for the office,
without regard to party principles. He was one of the organizers of
the school district and for some years has been a member of the school
board. Fraternally he is identified with the Masons and socially holds
membership in the Tisdale Golf Club. His religious faith is that of the
Methodist church and he is a member of its official board.
