HARVEY OLIVER POWELL.
Harvey Oliver Powell, general manager and director of the Weyburn Security Bank and of the Saskatchewan Life Insurance Company, is one of the foremost citizens of the Weyburn district. He was born in River Falls, Wisconsin, on the 24th of April, 1868, a son of Oliver S. and Lydia (Elmira) Powell. In the pursuit of his education Harvey Oliver Powell attended the public schools of his birthplace and was a student at the Normal School in River Falls for some time. Upon the completion of his education he be- came interested in banking and was active in that connection in Wiscon-and South Dakota from 1885 to 1907. He also took up the study of law, the knowledge of which has been of great assistance to him in his banking business. He was admitted to the South Dakota bar in 1899. He was cashier of the First National Bank at White Rock, South Dakota, for some time and in 1907 returned to Canada and located in Weyburn. In March of that year he was appointed general manager of the Weyburn Security Bank here and has since been active in this important position. The Weyburn Security Bank has twenty-four branches and sub branches, all in the province of Saskatchewan, at the following points: Assiniboia, Benson, Colgate, Creelman, Darmody, Expanse, Froude, Goodwater, Grif- fin, Halbrite, Lewvan, Midale, Mossbank, McTaggart, Osage, Pangman, Radville, Readlyn, Stoughton, Tribune, Vantage, Verwood and Yellow Grass. Mr. Powell is thoroughly famliar with banking in all its phases and he is readily conceded to be one of the foremost financiers in the dis- trict and province. Prior to coming to Weyburn in 1907, Mr. Powell was married to Miss Elizabeth Knox, a daughter of Henry Knox. To Mr. and Mrs. Powell six children have been born: Knox, Oliver, Liman, Louis, Lydia, and Sarah. Mr. Powell's religious faith is that of the Presbyterian church. He is a man of pleasing personality and he possesses the genius for mak- ing and keeping friends. Bibliography follows:
