SOREN P. PETERSEN..
Since 1918 Soren P. Petersen has practiced law in Canora, and is
numbered among the foremost barristers and solicitors in the city and
district. He was born in Denmark, on the 22d of March, 1883, a son of
Mads and Jensine (Nielson) Petersen, likewise natives of Denmark,
where they are now residing. The father has always followed farming.
In the pursuit of his early education Soren P. Petersen attended the
pul)lic schools in the neighborhood of the home farm. Subsequently he
enrolled in Copenhagen University, Denmark, and was graduated from
that institution in 19O5. In 1911 he came to Canada and being unable to
speak English, he was forced to work at whatever jobs he could find until
he could master the language. He worked in Winnipeg for about three
months and then came to Saskatchewan, where he has remained. He
has lived in various towns in this province and in 1918 came to Canora.
Soon after coming to this province Mr. Petersen took up the study of
law and was admitted to the bar in 1918. He was at first associated
here with the well known firm of McPhee & Petersen, but is now practic-
ing independently and has a fine practice.
Mr. Petersen was married to Miss Galdys Beaver, a native of Canada,
and to them were born three children: Arnold, Margaret Louise, and one
who has passed away.
Mr. Petersen devotes the greater part of his time and attention to his
professional interests, but he is a member of the local Chamber of Com-
merce and is active in the promotion of many progressive civic move-
ments. For recreation he turns to sports and is particularly fond of
hockey and curling.
