
JOHN C. OLIVER.
John C. Oliver, city treasurer of Saskatoon and one of the prominent
citizens of this district, was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, a son of
Samuel and Elizabeth (Henderson) Oliver, likewise natives of that coun-
try. In early life the father became an educstor and followed that line
of work for many years, becoming widely known. He is now retired.
The public schools of Ireland afforded John C. Oliver his education
and in 1906 he went to Australia, where he remained until 1911, when
he came to Canada and located in Calgary, residing there until March,
1912. At that time he came to Saskatoon and soon afterward was ap-
pointed assistant treasurer of the city, in which capacity he served until
1916, when he was made city treasurer and has since held this responsible
position. Mr. Oliver is a self-made man and he has won a position of
prominence among the men of marked ability and substantial worth in
this district.
Fraternally Mr. Oliver is identified with the Masons and he holds
membership in the Imperial Lodge of Free Masons, and is readily con-
ceded to be an exemplary member of the craft. His religious faith is
that of the Anglican church and he is a consistent member of St. John's
Anglican church in this city, of which he is secretary-treasurer. For
recreation from his official duties Mr. Oliver turns to outdoor sports and
is particularly fond of golf, holding membership in the Saskatoon City
Golf Club. Mr. Oliver has taken a good citizen's part in supporting meas-
ures for the growth and advancement of Saskatoon. He possesses a
genial and pleasing personality and his friends are legion. He is un-
married.
