HUGH MACLEAN, M.D.
A well known specialist of Regina is Dr. Hugh MacLean, who was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on the 30th of January, 1878, a son of Archi- bald and Margaret (Nairny) MacLean, who came from their native country to Canada in 1887 and located in Ontario. The father engaged in gardening and raising fruits and he was a manager of a large farm in that province. To Mr. and Mrs. MacLean five sons were born, Hugh being the third in order of birth. Throughout his life the father gave his political allegiance to the Liberal party and he maintained an active interest in local affairs. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. For many years he was chairman of the Liberal Association. His death was deeply regretted by his family and many friends. Mrs. MacLean survives her husband and is making her home in Fort William. She is a consistent member of the Presbyterian church. In the pursuit of his education Hugh MacLean attended the schools of Lambton district and the Petrolia high school. He was graduated from the University of Toronto in 1906, with the M. D. degree and in the same year took up practice at Lang, Saskatchewan, where he remained until 1913, when he came to Regina. Dr. MacLean has taken consider- able postgraduate work and he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He recently returned from a trip to South America with associates of the college. Associated with him in the practice of his pro- fession are Dr. Martin and Dr. Ritchie. They enjoy an extensive and ever-increasing practice and Dr. MacLean has won widespread recogni- tion for his skill in the surgical branch of the profession. In 1907 Dr. MacLean was married to Miss Susan Weir, a native of Ontario, who received her education in the public schools of that province and taught there for some time. She also engaged in educational work in Regina for a number of years. To Dr. and Mrs. MacLean three daugn- ters have been born: Margaret, a student in the local high school; and Marion and Isabelle, students in the public schools. The Doctor is a Presbyterian. Fraternally he. is a Mason and he has attained the Thirty-second degree of the Scottish Rite and is a Noble of the Mystic Shrine. Socially he is a member of the Regina Golf Club. Dr. MacLean's hobby is farming and he owns two well improved farms in this vicinity, and spends the greater part of his spare time in caring for them. He is a man of genial and pleasing personality and is held in high confidence and esteem by all who know him. Bibliography follows:
