JAMES EDWARD ARMSTRONG.
James Edward Armstrong is well known in real estate and insurance circles of Regina as president of the Armstrong-Logan Agency, Limited, which does the largest hail insurance business in the provinces of Sas- katchewan and Manitoba. He was born on a farm in Perth county, On- tario, on the 2d of June, 1877, a son of Jacob and Christina (Murray) Armstrong, both of whom were natives of Oxford county, Ontario. The father, who devoted his attention to farming pursuits, passed away in that province in 1879, at the comparatively early age of thirty-six years, while the mother, who long survived, was called to her final rest in Van- couver, British Columbia, on February 2, 1923, when seventy-five years of age. Both were devoted and consistent members of the Presbyterian church. They became parents of four children, James Edward and his twin being the youngest. The grade and high schools of Stratford, Ontario, afforded James E. Armstrong his educational opportunities and he afterward spent three years in the teaching profession, imparting clearly and readily to others the knowledge that he had acquired. Subsequently he was for a similar period in the service of the Bell Telephone Company and then secured a position in the office of the Grand Trunk Railroad, while later he was connected with the Mooney Biscuit & Candy Company for two years. It was in 1906 that he came to Regina and during the first three years of his residence in this city he was an employe of the Independent Lum- ber Company. He then embarked in the real estate, loans and insurance business, in association with his brother-in-law, J. A. Westman, whose interest he acquired in 1916. The concern is now conducted under the name of the Armstrong-Logan Agency Limited, which has built up the most extensive hail insurance business in the provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, writing more than one-quarter of a million premiums in the year 1922. The partners have also developed a profitable fire insur- ance business and enjoy an enviable reputation as leading representatives of their line of activity in Regina. In 1908 Mr. Armstrong was united in marriage to Miss Mabel J. Froste, a native of Stratford, Ontario, where she received a high school education. They have a son, Billie, who is in school. They attend the services of the Carmichael Presbyterian church and Mr. Armstrong is a popular member of the Wascana Country Club and the Assiniboia Club. Curling is his favorite form of recreation. He served as president of the Saskatchewan Curling Club in 1922 and 1923 and for ten years has been a member of the executive committee of the organization. He has also taken great interest in Rugby, acted as president of the local team for three years, was twice president of the Saskatchewan Rugby Union and at one time was at the head of the West Canada Rugby Union. In politics he is a Conservative. He is always loyal to those interests which fea- ture in good government and public progress and those who know him attest the sterling worth of his character in every relation of life.
