
FRANK G. LEWIN.
Prominent among the active and energetic business men of Saska-
toon is Frank G. Lewin, manager of the Toronto General Trust Corpora-
tion, with well appointed offices in the Canada building. He was born at
Newburgh, Ontario, in the County of Addington, in July, 1860, a son
of William and Mary (Cottier) Lewin, the former a native of Liverpool,
England, and the latter of the Isle of Man. He was rector of the Anglican
church at Prescott for thirty years, and was a man of sterling character
and sincerely devoted to his duties in connection with the church. Sub-
sequently he retired from the ministry a~d moved to Kingston, where he
was residing at the time of his death in October, 1916. Mrs. Lewin
died in 1873.
In the pursuit of his education Frank G. Lewin attended the Trinity
School at Port Hope and in 1881 came west and located at West Lynn,
on the Red river, which town is not on the map. at the present time but
then had a population of some fifteen hundred. There Mr. Lewin estab-
lished a general store, which he conducted for two years. He then moved
to Moosomin, Northwest Territories, where he conducted a general mer-
cantile store until 1889. In that year he ventured into the real. estate
and financial business and continued to reside in Moosomin, being one of
its leading residents for twenty-six years. In 1905 he became associ-
ated with the General Trusts Corporation and was appointed its first
inspector, his headquarters to be in Moosomin. Moosomin has produced
many of the influential men of the province of Saskatchewan and while
living there Mr. Lewin made the acquaintance of John Hawkes, the author
of this work, and they have since been close friends. Mr. Lewin took
a prominent part in the political affairs of Moosomin and was campaign
manager for Senator Turriff in the election of 1904. He was a member
of the Municipal Council for years. In 1901 he was one of a committee
of three selected by the Dominion government to report on the Doukho-
bors. In 1905 Mr. Lewin became Inspector in the Northwest Territories
for the Toronto General Trusts Corporation. In 1910 he was transferred
to Saskatoon as manager of this corporation and has since held this
important office. His territory includes the entire province of Saskatche-
wan. The success Mr. Lewin has achieved is the result of close appli-
cation to the thing at hand, innate ability and laudable ambition. He
employs the highest and most honorable methods in the conduct of his
business affairs and is held in high confidence~ and esteem by all who
know him.
In February of the year 1886 Mr. Lewin was married to Miss Althea
Atkins and they have the following children: Mollie, the wife of J. P.
Fortescue, whose father was prominently associated with the Hudson's
Bay Company; William, who died from wounds received in the Great
war; Harry, a veteran of the Great war, who was wounded in action,
but is now engaged in business in Winnipeg; and Margaret, who is liv-
ing at home with her parents.
Since attaining his majority Mr. Lewin has given his political alle-
giance to the Liberal party and the principles for which it stands. He
was a member of the city council of Saskatoon for years and was chair-
man of the finance committee for three years. Fraternally he is identi-
fied with the Masons. He is an active member of the Saskatoon Club,
the Canadian Club, the Kiwanis Club, the Riverside Country Club and
the Saskatoon Golf Club. His religious faith is that of the Anglican
church. Although his managerial duties demand the greater part of
his time and attention, Mr. Lewin has extensive farming interests
in this district.
