JOSEPH T. COOPER, M.D.
 


	The medical profession of Saskatoon finds a representative member
in Dr. Joseph T. Cooper, well known physician and surgeon, with offices
in the Canadian Pacific building. He was born in the province of Ontario,
at Plattsville, on the 28th of April, 1878, a son of Joseph and Elizabeth C.
(Neville) Cooper, the former a native of England and the latter of
Quebec City. Joseph Cooper came to Canada with his parents when two
years of age.  Upon reaching man's estate he engaged in farming in
Ontario and operated his land for some years, but later became a wheel-
wright.  In 1908 he came to Saskatchewan and acquired a homestead
near Langham, thirty-five miles from Saskatoon, which he brought to a
highly improved state and it is now one of the show places of the prov-
ince. He continues farming and is a representative agriculturist. Mrs.
Cooper is also living.
	In the pursuit of his education Joseph T. Cooper attended the public
and high schools of Galt, Ontario, and then taught school from 1899 to
1901. In the latter year he enrolled in the medical department of the
University of Manitoba and was graduated from that institution with
the M. D. degree in 1906. He practiced in Manitoba until May, 1910,
when he came to Saskatchewan and located at Scott, where he resided
until 1918, and then came to Saskatoon, and has here since continued to
practice. Earnest effort, close application and the exercise of his native
talents have won Dr. Cooper a position of prominence among the fore-
most members of the medical profession in the city and district.
	In March, 1907, Dr. Cooper was married to Miss Muriel Ada Tait, a
daughter of James Tait, a native of New Brunswick and a pioneer citizen
of Lake Winnipeg, Manitoba.  For many years Mr. Tait conducted a
fishing business there and he is now living in Victoria, British Columbia.
Mrs. Tait died when her daughter was a mere child. Dr. and Mrs. Cooper
have two children: Ralph Tait, born in February, 1908; and Ada Eliza-
beth, born in August, 1909. Mrs. Cooper is a woman of culture and refine-
ment and she is a pianist of ability. She won the Toronto Conservatory
of Music Gold Medal for piano playing in 1920, in a contest in which
pianists throughout Canada participated.
	In his political views Dr. Cooper is independent, giving his support
to the man he thinks best fitted for the office without regard to party
principles. For two years he was active in the office of mayor of Scott
and has been coroner of Saskatchewan for the past ten years. He also
held that position for a time in Manitoba. Along strictly professional
lines he holds membership in the Canadian Medical Association, the
Saskatchewan Medical Association and the Saskatoon Academy of Medi-
cine.  Fraternally he is identified with the Independent Order of Odd
Fellows, the Canadian Order of Foresters and the Yeomen. Socially he
is identified with the Riverside Country Club and the Canadian Club.
His religious faith is that of the Presbyterian church. Dr. Cooper is a
man of genial personality and has many friends.
