MRS. CHRISTINA WILLEY.
Mrs. Christina Willey, who has been engaged in business as the owner of a drug store at Bredenbury since 1911, has demonstrated her ability not only in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry but has also won envi- able renown along literary lines as a poet of the plains. She came to the Northwest Territories more than a third of a century ago. Mrs. Willey is a native of Surrey, England, and a daughter of George and Jane (Law- rence) Cooper, who were born in Scotland and England, respectively. Her education was acquired in the Clapham Middle School, London, England. It was in the year 1889 that she emigrated to Canada and took tip her abode at Sumner, in the Northwest Territories, there remaining for four years. On the expiration of that period-in 1893-she removed to Saltcoats, Saskatchewan, where she made her home for eighteen years. Since 1911 she has been a resident of Bredenbury, this province. Mrs. Willey was graduated as a pharmaceutical chemist in 1899 and has con- tinued active along this line. It is in the field of literature, however, that she is perhaps best known, for she has published considerable prose and verse that has gained her more than local fame and has met with nierited appreciation among her readers. She is a member of the Canadian Authors Association. On the 29th of March, 1889, in London, England, Christina Cooper became the wife of Thomas Burness Willey.
