AUGUSTUS J. BRETT, D. D. S.
A comparatively recent arrival in the ranks of the dental profession in
Regina is Dr. Augustus J. Brett, who moved to this city in 1921, coming
from Vancouver, where he had previously been practicing dentistry. Dr.
Brett is a native of Ontario, his birth having occurred at Alliston in the
year 1884, and the youngest of a family of nine children, eight of whom
are living. His father, James Brett, was born in County Connaught, Ire-
land, and came out to Canada as a young man, here meeting the young
lady who afterward became his wife. Elizabeth Hanna, for that was the
name of the future Mrs. Brett, was born and grew to womanhood in On-
tario, where she was married and lived until 1900, when the family moved
west to Saskatchewan. Here the father took up a homestead on which
he lived until his death. He was a Conservative in his political views and
both he and his wife were active in the work of the Methodist church.
Augustus J. Brett received his education in Toronto University, grad-
uating from the dental school in 1911. The young dentist immediately
opened an office for the practice of his profession in Vancouver, where
he remained for ten years. Since he came to Regina in 1921 he has built
up a gratifying clientele and has become one of the established dentists
of the city.
The year that he graduated from the university Dr. Brett was married
to Miss Susana Stephen of Owen Sound, Ontario, who was born and edu-
cated in that city. Dr. and Mrs. Brett have five children: Margaret and
Mary, who are attending school; Oliver, Susana and Elizabeth. The family
is affiliated with the Methodist church and Dr. Brett is a Scottish Rite
Mason. For recreation the Doctor spends much time working in his
garden, of which he has excellent reason to be proud and derives much
pleasure from caring for his flowers and vegetables. He is interested in
all that tends to raise the standards of his profession and promote the
efficiency of its representatives, and keeps in touch with the progress that
is being made along dental lines in this country and elsewhere.
