African - Saskatchewan

Many African Canadian who came to Canada arrived in Eastern Canada via the underground railway. They obtained jobs as Pullman Porters on the railways.

The Klu Klux Klan, active in Saskatchewan in the 1920s, was mainly a group promoting immigration from Britain, Scandinavia and western Europe.

Mrs. Martha Jane Mayes brought her extended family to the Maidstone area of Saskatchewan, establishing the colony there. Maidstone, Eldon and Shiloh are all located in the Lloydminster Gen Web Region.
