Dash brothers Fred and Albert arrive from England in 1882. They stop in Broadview to buy oxen, a wagon, tent and supplies. They applied for their homestead in Whitewood, and continued south to Pipestone creek. There they camped, and make a bridge across the creek. The Dash brothers, and Wm. Dixon family were the first settlers in the area. From the homestead records, it appears many Dash family members homestead in the area.

The family shows up on the 1901 census; Broadview District #28 Assiniboia East, Northwest Territories. The handwritten spelling of the surname got transcribed as Gardner. The census states a birth date of Sept 24 1888 age 12 emigrated from England 1889.
