He was then appointed assistant city assessor of Regina and held that office until 1914, when he put all personal interests aside and enlisted for service in the World war. He went overseas as a gunner and served until the close of the war, rendering his country val- uable service. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and received bis discharge from the army in August of the year, 1919. In May of the following year he came to Prince Albert as city assessor and has dis- charged the duties of this office to the best of his ability and to the com- plete satisfaction of all concerned. In London, England, in February, 1908, Mr. Whebell was married to Miss Catherine Ellen Jessett and to their union one child has been born: Jose, whose birth occurred on the 1st of July, 1917. Prior to the outbreak of the World war Mr. Whebell was associated with the militia and at the present time is commander of the Forty-fourth Battery at Prince Albert. Fraternally he is a Royal Arch Mason and he is an active member of the Rotary Club and the Keewatin Club. His religious faith is that of the Anglican church. Mr. Whebell finds his greatest recreation in his music and he is prominent in musical circles. Prior to his enlistment for service and while a resident of Regina he conducted the orchestra which won the shield in the Saskatchewan Music Festival, in 1912, 1913 and 1914. He has made many friends since coming to Prince Albert, for he is not only a capable business man and public official but he is genial and pleasing of disposition, ever quiet and unassuming.
