
ROBERT R. TAIT.
Robert R. Tait, inspector of provincial police headquarters, is one of
the prominent citizens of Prince Albert. He was born on the boundary
of Banffshire, near Balmoral Castle, Scotland, on the 9th of April, 1885, a
son of John and Isabella (Rose) Tait, also natives of Scotland. John Tait
has engaged in farming for many years and was very active in various
agricultural societies. He makes a specialty of breeding pure-blooded
stock.
In the pursuit of his education Robert R. Tait attended the public and
high schools of his native land and in 1904, at the age of twenty years, he
came to Canada and located in Ontario, where he worked on a farm until
1905. In that year he joined the Royal North West Mounted Police in
Alberta and was sent to Fort Saskatchewan and subsequently served with
them in many places. In 1910 he joined the Saskatchewan Provincial police
as constable and was later given the rank of sergeant and stationed at
Regina, Swift Current and Prince Albert. He organized the Swift Cur-
rent division and was made inspector there. In January, 1919, he came
to Prince Albert as inspector and has reorganized this division, bringing
it to a high degree of efficiency. Mr. Tait deserves special mention for
his success in handling the Carter and Sayroski murder cases and the Bar-
rows bandits case. He is sincerely devoted to the line of work in which
he has spent many years and through the commendable discharge of his
duties has won the confidence and esteem of his fellow citizens.
In May, 1916, Mr. Tait was married to Miss Hilda Taylor, a daughter
of James Taylor. Mr. Taylor was born in England and was among the
pioneer settlers of Saskatchewan. He farmed for a number of years in
the Wolseley district and is now retired from active life.
Fraternally Mr. Tait is a Royal Arch Mason and an active member
of the Kiwanis Club and the Prince Albert Club. His religious faith is
that of the Presbyterian church. Mr. Tait is a veteran of the Great war.
He spent two years in the army, one-half of that time overseas, and was
both wounded and gassed. He was commissioned a lieutenant and was
honorably discharged in June, 1917.
