CECIL B. SPRINGSTEIN.
Cecil B. Springstein has been the manager of the Regina Foundry Company, Limited, since 1912. Born in Kent county, Ontario, on the 10th of August, 1878, he is the son of the late Alonzo and Catherine (MacDiarmid) Springstein, both natives of that province. A farmer by occupation, the father moved to Manitoba many years ago, where he bought a large farm near Winnipeg, on which he lived all the rest of his life. He was very progressive in his agricultural methods and always kept good horses and cattle. His political views were those of the Liberal party. His wife was a member of the Christian church and throughout her life exemplified the teachings of her religion. She survived her hus- band for some time and passed away in Saskatchewan. Cecil Springstein is the oldest of a family of seven children, of whom but three are living. As he was very small when the family moved west he obtained his educa- tion in Manitoba, attending school at Portage la Prairie and Macdonald. When he was fifteen years old Mr. Springstein left his father's farm to go to work for the railroad as an engine wiper. A little later he be- came a fireman and fired for a year. Following his experience with the railroad he entered a machinist's shop in Portage La Prairie to learn the trade and was there for five years. He came to Regina in 1905 as a machinist for the Regina Machine Works, for whom he worked for two years and a half, then for four years he was connected with Reeves & Company as an expert machinist. After a sojourn of a year in British Columbia, during which he ran a locomotive, Mr. Springstein returned to this city and entered the employ of the successors of his old firm, the Regina Foundry Company, Limited, as manager. On the 15th of December, 1910, Mr. Springstein was married to Miss Sarah E. McEachern, the daughter of John McEachern, an old pioneer farmer of Saskatchewan and former Reeve of the Municipality of Sher- wood, where he made his home. Three children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Springstein: Fern, who is at school; Russell, a school boy; and Clarence, a little lad of five. The family attends St. Andrew's Presbyte- rian church. Both Mr. and Mrs. Springstein are members of the Re- bekahs, while Mr. Springstein has been very prominent in the work of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He belongs to all the branches of this order, has been through all the chairs of the subordinate branch and is now going through the chairs of the encampment and canton. He has contributed much to the development of this order in the past few years and has many intimate friends among its members. He is also a member of the Knights of Pythias. In his younger days Mr. Springstein was fond of football and hockey and now enjoys shooting, belonging to the Regina Gun Club. His has been an active and well-spent life, in which earnest purpose and honorable effort have carried him steadily forward to success and have won for him the warm regard of all with whom he had been associated.
