Dr. Ernest P. Smith, osteopathic physician, with offices in the Canada building, is one of the foremost members of the profession in Saskatoon. He is a native of the United States, his birth occurring at Columbia, Boone county, Missouri, on the 27th of April, 1873, a son of Francis M. and Hattie J. (Pearson) Smith, natives of Missouri. The father was born in Boone county in February, 1840, and Mrs. Smith was born in Audrain county. The father was an agriculturist and stock raiser and made a specialty of raising pure bred cows and, fast trotting and saddle horses. He was likewise active in legal circles and was county judge for eight years. His death occurred on the 28th of September, 1921, at the age of eighty-one years and seven months. Mrs. Smith died on the 27th of May, 1906, aged sixty-three years. The public schools of Boone county afforded Ernest P. Smith his pre- liminary education and after putting his textbooks aside he established a small country store, which he operated for some time. His boyhood ambition was to become a professional man and eventually he enrolled in the American School of Osteopathy at Kirksville, Missouri, from which institution he was graduated on the 22d of June, 1897. He immediately commenced to practice in Jefferson City, Missouri, and later removed to Fargo, North Dakota, where he assisted in the establishment of the Northwestern College & Infirmary of Osteopathy, and was president of that institution for two years, when it was purchased by the American School of Osteopathy. Dr. Smith went to St. Louis, Missouri, and practiced there for some time, later removing to North Carolina, and from North Carolina to Columbia, Missouri, several years later locating in Belling- ham, Washington, where he practiced until the 1st of November, 1915, and then came to Canada, locating in Camrose, Alberta. In August of the year 1916 he came to Saskatoon and has since practiced here. He has an extensive, important and lucrative patronage and stands high among the foremost members of his profession in the province. On the 3d of October, 1898, Dr. Smith was married to Miss Anna C. Hildebrand and they have one child: Francis M., whose birth occurred on the 3d of December, 1899, and who is now engaged in costume designing in San Francisco, being associated with Livingston Brothers of that city. He is at the same time taking special work in the University of California. Fraternally Dr. Smith is identified with the Masons, holding member- ship in the Knights Templars and the Mystic Shrine, and he is also affiliated with the Knights of Pythias and the Modern Woodmen of America. He is past patron of the Eastern Star Lodge and grand sentinel of the Grand Chapter of that lodge. Along strictly professional lines he is identified with the American Osteopathic Association. His religious faith is that of the Methodist church. For recreation the Doctor turns to baseball and hunting. Bibliography follows:
