MRS. ELIZABETH THORPE MARRIOTT.
Mrs. Elizabeth Thorpe Marriott, proprietor of the Saskatoon Nursery ~nd with other extensive interests in Saskatoon, is prominent in business circles and deserves a place of honor among this city's foremost business representatives. She was born in Derbyshire, England, on the 8th of February, 1873, a daughter of George and Salma (Briggs) Thorpe, like- wise natives of England. Her parents came to Canada in 1907, where the father engaged in agricultural pursuits. In later life he assisted his daughter in the conduct of the nursery. His death occurred on the 18th of October, 1922. Mrs. Thorpe is living. Elizabeth Thorpe was reared and educated in England and on the 8th of June, 1895, was married to Arthur Marriott, in England. He was in the floral business in that country and in 1903 came to Canada and lo- cated in Saskatoon, where for seven years be was manager of a nursery. Subsequently he purchased the nursery and nine months later on the 18th of January, 1913,-he passed away, aged thirty-nine years. Mrs. Marriott then assumed the role of business woman, in addition to her duties as mother and has since run the nursery. Success has attended her efforts and she has improved and greatly enlarged the nursery. The greenhouses cover forty thousand feet of space and the nursery covers about eight acres. She employs ten people and gives every detail of the business her personal attention. In addition to the nursery Mrs. Marriott owns and operates a store on Second avenue, which she estab- lished some nine years ago. To Mr. and Mrs. Marriott two children were born: Sybil is the wife of Burt Tupman, associated with the Hudson's Bay Company at Saska- toon, and they have four children, Sybil, Audrey, June and Marion; Leslie Arthur Marriott is associated with his mother in business. Mrs. Marriott is a member of the Daughters and Maids of England. Her religious faith is that of the Anglican church. Mr. Marriott was affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Mrs. Marriott deserves much credit for the manner in which she has conducted her busi- ness affairs and she has many friends. Bibliography follows:
