A. G. MACKINNON.
A.G. MacKinnon, a successful barrister of Regina, was born in Anti-
gonish, Nova Scotia, on the 5th of March, 1882, son of Angus R. and
Margaret (MacGillivray) MacKinnon. His parents are natives of Nova
Scotia and still reside in that province, where the father follows the
occupation of an agriculturist. The MacKinnons are members of the
Roman Catholic church and have reared their family in that faith. Mr.
MacKinnon has been a lifelong supporter of the Conservative party.
A.G. MacKinnon of this review is the second of a family of five chil-
dren. He attended the public schools of Nova Scotia until he had com-
pleted the high school course and was ready for college. In 1905 he
graduated with the Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of St.
Francis Xavier at Antigonish and for something over a year engaged in
teaching. He left the educational field, however, to become a traveling
insurance salesman and this work brought him to Regina in 1908. For
some little time after coming to this city he continued to sell insurance.
His ambition, however, was to enter the legal profession and he eventually
found an opportunity to begin his preparation for this work in the office
of Judge Embury, where he read law under that capable jurist's direction.
In 1913 he was called to the bar and has been engaged in the practice
of his profession in Regina ever since, enjoying a gratifying clientele.
Mr. MacKinnon was married in 1915 to Miss Lorrie MacMaster. Mrs.
MacKinnon was born and educated in Port Hood, Nova Scotia, and was
a teacher before her marriage. They have become the parents of five
children: Joseph, who is attending school; Margaret, Cyril, Gordon and
David. The family is identified with the Roman Catholic church and Mr.
MacKinnon is prominent in the Knights of Columbus, being at present
district deputy of this jurisdiction. A Conservative in politics, he has
been active in party affairs and was formerly president of the Conserva-
tive Association. For two years he served on the Regina city council
and has always been an advocate of those things that make for a better
civic government and promote the community welfare. He represents
his profession in the Kiwanis Club and belongs to the Assiniboia and
Wascana Country Clubs, these associations indicating the trend of his
interest outside of purely professional affairs. Mr. MacKinnon
stands high in the estimation of his colleagues in his profession and commands
the confidence of the entire community, by reason of his successful work
in his chosen profession.
