DAVID R. LIVINGSTONE, M. D.
Dr. David R. Livingstone is well known throughout Melville and the
district as a capable practitioner. He was born in the province of 0n-
tario, on the 7th of June, 1878, a son of John Livingstone, Jr., and Agnes
(Thompson) Livingstone, natives of Scotland. Mr. and Mrs. Livingstone
came to Canada when young people and located in Listowel, Ontario
where for many years the father has conducted a drug store. He is still
in active business, at the age of seventy-three years. Dr. Livingstone is
a grand-nephew of David Livingstone, the celebrated African missionary
and explorer. The Doctor has some press notices of his famous relative
of which he is very proud.
The public schools of his native province afforded David R. Living-
stone his early education and subsequently he was graduated from high
school. He then entered Toronto University, then known as Trinity Uni-
versity, and was graduated therefrom with the M. D., C. M. degrees in
1900. In 1909 he came west to Melville and has since been engaged in
the practice of his profession here. He has proven himself to be a most
capable and conscientious practitioner and has grown with Melville. He
has become a part of the political, social and sporting fabric in this
section of Saskatchewan.
In 1906 Dr. Livingstone was married to Miss Grace McArthur, a
native of Winnipeg, whose father was Duncan McArthur, the first bank
manager of the Merchants Bank of Winnipeg. Mr. and Mrs. Livingstone
have a daughter, Marion, aged five years.
Dr. Livingstone has been a real force in movements toward a great
Melville. He has been a member of the local school board for some years
and has served as president of the Board of Trade. His political alle-
giance is given to the Liberal party and he maintains an active interest
in party affairs. Fraternally he is affiliated with the Masons, the Inde-
pendent Order of Odd Fellows and the Knights of Pythias. His religious
faith is that of the Presbyterian church. Dr. Livingstone owns con-
siderable valuable land in this district. He is a great sportsman and
finds much recreation in curling, hockey and hunting.
