JAMES HOWE.
James Howe, the postmaster of Star City, was born in Sheffield, Eng- land, in November, 1864, a son of Henry and Ann (James) Howe, like- wise natives of England, the former of whom was a commission agent in the old country. His death occurred in 1891, and Mrs. Howe passed away in 1898. The public schools of Sheffield afforded James Howe his education and upon the completion of his schooling he worked with his father in the commission business until 1890, in which year he came to Canada and located at Neepawa, Manitoba. He resided there until 1908, and subsequently came to Star City and took a homestead nine miles north- east, which he operated until 1915, when he sold out. For a time Mr. Howe was the temporary postmaster of Star City and in September, 1919, was appointed to the office, which he has since held, and is satis- factorily discharging the duties of that position. He maintains an active interest in civic affairs, and was secretary of the iocal school board one year and secretary of the Board of Trade for some time, and is still an active member of that body. Fraternally he is identified with the Orange Lodge and his religious faith is that of the Anglican church. Bibliography follows:
