JOHN D. BROWN.
John D. Brown, barrister, is one of the representative members of his profession in Rosthern and enjoys an extensive and lucrative clientele. He was born in Lorneville, Cumberland county, Nova Scotia, on the 26th of August, 1872. a son of Michael and Elizabeth (Mahoney) Brown, the former a native of Nova Scotia and the latter of New Brunswick. Mr. Brown followed agricultural pursuits all of his life in Nova Scotia and his death occurred in March, 1876. His widow survived him until April of the year 1919. The public schools of Capbald, New Brunswick, afforded John D. Brown his early education and subsequently he enrolled in St. Joseph's College at Memrancook, New Brunswick. Later he attended St. Francis Xavier's College, Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and then engaged in teaching school for four years at Dorchester, New Brunswick. During that time he articled himself to Hon. H. Remerson and in November, 1900, he was admitted to the bar. He commenced practice at Chatham, New Brunswick, where he remained for two years and after being admitted to the bar in Nova Scotia, removed to Amherst, where he practiced from 1903 until 1909. He then came west and located in Rosthern, where he has since resided. His rise in the profession has been rapid and he stands among the foremost barristers in the town, district and province. Aside from his professional duties Mr. Brown is engaged in cultivating some eight hundred acres of land and he makes a specialty of raising pure-blood Belgian horses. He achieves success in any line of work he undertakes because he closely applies himself to the task at hand. In February, 1902, Mr. Brown was married to Miss Maude Gillespie of Nova Scotia and they are the parents of six children: Gerald M., born on the 11th of November, 1902; Ada, born on the 11th of April, 1904; Fred J., born on the 3d of January, 1906; Harold J., born on the Sd of June, 1907; Edward J., born on the 4th of December, 1910; and Eileen E., born on the 30th of December, 1915. The two eldest children are attending the University of Saskatchewan and the next three sons are students in the high school at Rosthern. In his political views Mr. Brown is a Liberal and he is actively in- terested in civic affairs. He is a stanch advocate of education and has been a member and chairman of the Rosthern school board for ten years. Along strictly professional lines he holds membership in the Canadian Bar Association and the Saskatchewan Bar Association and he remains a constant student of his profession. He is a consistent communicant of the Catholic church. Bibliography follows:
