
FRANK LINDSAY BASTEDO.
Frank Lindsay Bastedo, member of the firm of Mackenzie, Thom, Baste-
do & Jackson, barristers and solicitors, Regina, Saskatchewan, was born
at Bracebridge, Ontario, September 10, 1886. His father, David Edgar
Bastedo, is of United Empire Loyalist stock and was born in Oxford county.
His mother, Elizabeth Ann Bastedo, was born in England.
Frank L. Bastedo received his primary education in the public and
high schools of his native town, matriculating in 1902. He took a com-
mercial course at the Central Business College, Toronto, spent a year in
newspaper work and in 1904 began the study of law in the office of the
late 0. M. Arnold, King's Counsel, Bracebridge. On May 21, 1909, he
was called to the bar of Ontario, with honours, from the Law School,
Osgoode Hall, and in the same year obtained the degree of Bachelor of
Laws from Toronto University. During his final year at the Law School
he was a student in the office of Frank E. Hodgins, King's Counsel (now a
Judge of the First Appellate Divisional Court of Ontario). In Decem-
ber, 1909, Mr. Bastedo was taken into partnership with Mr. Hodgins
and Mr. Angus C. Heighington, the firm being known as Hodgins, Heigh-
ington & Bastedo. He continued with that firm until July 1, 1911, when,
at the request of Mr. Norman Mackenzie, King's Counsel, the senior mem-
ber of the then firm of Mackenzie, Brown, Thom, McMorran & MacDonald,
he decided to go to Regina to join that firm.
On July 12, 1911, Mr. Bastedo was married to Miss Alma Anderson,
B. A., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Anderson of Toronto. Mrs.
Bastedo is an Honour Graduate of Toronto University, 1909. Mr. and
Mrs. Bastedo arrived in Regina on September 1, 1911, and since that
date he has been connected with the firm of which Mr. Mackenzie has
been the head, and which is now known as Mackenzie, Thom, Bastedo
Jackson. Mr. and Mrs. Bastedo have four children: Dorothy Alma,
Edgar Frank, Jean Ann Clementina and Donald Lou Alexander.
In religion Mr. Bastedo is a Presbyterian and in politics a Conserva-
tive, and although he has taken practically no part in provincial politics,
he is active federally and at the time of writing is president of the Regina
Federal Conservative Association. He is a director of the Board of Trade,
a member of the Assiniboia Club, Wascana Country Club, Regina Boat
Club, and the Canadian Club of Regina; of the latter he was president
in 1920. He has also held executive positions in the Saskatchewan and
Regina Bar Associations. In his leisure hours Mr. Bastedo indulges a
taste for music, water sports, golf and gardening.
