GEORGE H. BARR, K. C.  



	George H. Barr, K. C., practicing law in Regina since 1907, is one of
the foremost barristers of the city and a member of the firm of Barr,
Stewart, Johnson & Cumming, barristers and solicitors.  The son of
George and Clara (Morphy) Barr, he was born in Norwich, Ontario, on
the 29th of July, 1878. His education was obtained in the public schools
of Norwich, the model school of Woodstock, Ontario, the Regina Normal
School and Osgoode Hall. For three years following his graduation from
Normal School in 1898, Mr. Barr taught school in Saskatchewan. He was
strongly attracted to the legal profession, however, and in 1902 gave up
his educational work to begin the study of law.  From then until 1906
he was engaged in reading for his profession under the direction of ex-
Lieutenant Governor G. W. Brown of Regina and the Hon. Wallace Nes-
bitt, K. C., of Toronto. After he was called to the bar of Saskatchewan
in 1907 he entered into the practice of his profession in Regina, which
has engaged his chief attention ever since~ He is a member of the firm
of Barr, Stewart, Johnson & Cumming, with offices in the Saskatchewan
Life building and ranks high among the barristers and solicitors of the
provincial capital.  A high order of ability in his chosen line of work
distinguishes Mr. Barr as a barrister and he has been accorded a large
and lucrative practice, one that would gratify the ambitions of a man
with very lofty aspirations.
	Mr. Barr has not confined his activities to the legal profession but has
been identified with a number of enterprises in Regina which have con-
tributed materially to the growth and prosperity of the community. He
is vice president of the Saskatchewan General Trusts Corporation and a
director of the Saskatchewan Life Insurance Company.  By his profes-
sional advice and sound business judgment Mr. Barr has been able to
render some very real assistance to various civic bodies in the conduct of
their business, having been a member of (he Regina city council in 1915
and 1916, and having served on the board of trustees for the Regina Sink-
ing Fund from its inception in 1915 until 1923.  In 1914 and 1915 he
held the office of president of the Canadaian [sic] Club of Regina. Along the
line of strictly professional interests, Mr. Barr belongs to the Regina
Bar Association of which he was formerly president, and has been for a
number of years a member of the Council of the Canadian Bar Associa-
tion.
	In 1906 George H. Barr and Miss Ethel L. Dawson were united in
marriage and they have four children, three sons and a daughter. The
family belong to the Presbyterian church of which Mr. Barr is an elder.
More than an excellent legal authority and able business man, Mr. Barr
is a good citizen. He has at all times been identified with those things
that make for progress and the betterment of the city in which he lives
and he is rightly considered one of the representative professional men
and leading citizens of Regina.
