EDWARD B. ALPORT, M.D.
A well known physician and surgeon of Regina is Dr. Edward B. Alport, who was born in Orillia, Ontario, on the 9th of December, 1888, a son of Edward B. and Barbara Gray (Leask) Alport, the former a na- tive of England and the latter of Ontario. For a number of years the father engaged in the mercantile business in Ontario and is now retired from active life. He and his wife became parents of three children, two of whom are living, Edward B., whose name introduces this review, being the third in order of birth. Mr. and Mrs. Alport are consistent members of the Presbyterian church and both are active in the various church or- ganizations. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity and his political allegiance is given to the Liberal party. In the pursuit of his education Edward B. Alport attended the public schools of his birthplace and in due time was graduated from high school and from the Collegiate Institute. He enrolled in Toronto University in 1906 and was graduated from that institution with the M. D. degree in 1910. He took postgraduate work in Scranton, Pennsylvania, for a year and in 1911 came to Regina and became associated with the medical firm of Ball & Harvie. He was active in that association for a time and in 1912 became associated with Johnstone & Harvie. In 1916 he engaged in practice independently. He specializes in surgery and each year takes postgraduate work, thereby keeping in touch with the advancement con- stantly being made by eminent members of the profession throughout the country. In 1914 Dr. Alport was married to Miss Ruth Ogilvie Harvie, a native of Ontario. To them three children have been born: Elizabeth, a student in the local schools; and Patricia and William Edward. Dr. and Mrs. Alport are members of the Presbyterian church. Fraternally he is iden- tified with the Masons and he holds membership in the Royal Arch Masons. He is a member of the Wascana Country Club and along strictly professional lines holds membership in the Regina Medical Association, the Canadian Medical Association and the Saskatchewan Medical Associ- ation, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. During the Great war the Doctor was captain of the district and he had charge of the military hospital in Regina. He was also head surgeon for the province during the war, caring for the troops stationed in Regina. In addition to his private practice the Doctor is a member of the staff of the General Hospital and of the Grey Nun's Hospital. Bibliography follows:
