To whom it may concern: I found this photo among my husband's paternal
grandmother's photos. The back of the photo states that she taught
school there in 1917. Her name was Ingeborg Marie Bergquist b. Sweden,
1898, died in St. Paul, MN in 1978. She was married to Charles Gotfrid
Peterson. I was wondering if you could verify this photo for me. send an email to Gary & Ginny Peterson To do a bit of detective work on this photo, with the handwriting on the reverse side of it. The writing might say; 1917 Canada Where I taught Hard to raise the flag - (Union Jack) every day- The Royal Union Flag was the flag of British North America and in Canada Confederation of 1867 until 1965.source So now looking at the sign enlarged, it might say something that is washed out followed by the readable letters CrE?K Here are some random samplings of Saskatchewan one room schoolhouses, which have born no fruit to date, and this is not a comprehensive listing as of yet. If anyone has heard of this teacher Ingeborg Marie Bergquist who later married Charles Gotfrid Peterson, and was a teacher in 1917 in Canada, it would be appreciated to send an email to Gary & Ginny Peterson The double door on the front of the school house is unique and also may be a clue as to which school house this may be In Saskatchewan there is Pearl Creek School District of which there is a photo online, which does not match the shape of this mystery school house There is a comment about Silver Creek School near Kamsack, no photo however. Similarly there is a comment about Crooked Hill Creek School but no photo. However the sign on this mystery school does not look the right size to accomodate this long name Similarly there is a comment about Pipestone Creek School but no photo. The photo of Pipestone Creek School districe 4798 was built in 1937 in Alberta, Canada and is not a match in style nor date. There is a story about One Room School Records mentioning Boule Creek School and information, but no picture. MacKay Creek School District 3180 also spelled McKay Creek School 3180 located near Maple Creek. also is a contender, and there is no photo submitted to date of McKay Creek School. However due to the large SD numbering, it was probably built after 1917- the lower the number the earlier the school was erected. Manybone Creek School District 1422 was near Vibank, SK McCloy Creek School District 4261 was situated near Meskanaw. However due to the large SD numbering, it was probably built after 1917- the lower the number the earlier the school was erected.. McFarlane Creek School District 5187 was situated near Prince Albert. However due to the large SD numbering, it was probably built after 1917- the lower the number the earlier the school was erected. Crooked Creek School 1181 has a lower school district number, is located near Arcola, yet there is no photo of the school online Short Creek School 768 would fit with the school district numbering, however there is no photo of Short Creek online to date. Swift Creek School 261 of Saskatchewan might work out, however there is no comparison school house photo online again Thunder Creek School 262 located near Audrey Saskatchewan might be a match similarly, however no comparison photo All that is known to date about Miry Creek School District 397 to date is the location and the date 1912-1956, but no comparison school house photo. Clear Creek School District 424 1896-1956 was open in the right time frame for 1917, but the image provided by the RM of Good Lake shows a porch on this school, non existent on the 1917 photo of the mystery school. That being said, a porch could have been added later Deer Creek School District 1275 was near Sheho, Insinger and Theodore, but no school lhouse photo Convent Creek School 4640 was around 1926-1961 so is not the right match at all. AMISK CREEK School District # 799 was a school in Alberta Canada, but no photo online Antelope Creek School District 4751 was a later school near Halvorgate. Armstrong Creek School District 5210 was another later school near Ravenscrag |
