In 1906, the community came together for a school district.This school building succombed to flames in the spring of 1943, and was re-built the same year.In 1952 the student population swelled and the original Hat Creek School building was not large enough to accommodate the enrolment levels. Therefore a new school building was built within the boundaries of the school district in the St. James area, and the old school building remained as well to accommodate all the children. By 1962, the original school building was no longer needed, as the pupils began bussing to Laurier School in Annaheim. In 1964 the building serving as "New Hat Creek School" was moved to Fulda for a classroom. Excerpted from "A Cross in the clearing"
