Images submitted by Les Oystryk while administering the “Reindeer Lake History” Facebook page over the past year and a half, and from personal knowledge and communication with others as well as from living there back in the 1970’s.

The school at Kinoosao would definitely have been a provincially funded school as a part of the Department of Education and the community development efforts, after the community was established by the D.N.R. in about 1952.

According to research done by Oystryk the first teacher there was a Mr. Frank Romarchuk, address or whereabouts unknown. The second teacher there was Mr. Ray Wanhella who resides in Humboldt. There is some locally written historical information available, as well as a good number of people who are still around and attended this school.

Kinoosao (co-op Point) is located at 57.081993N and 102.01934W near the Manitoba and Saskatchewan border in Northern Saskatchewan. The closest communities are Lynn Lake, and Brochet in Manitoba, and Southend, Saskatchewan. Lynn Lake is the closest community to Kinoosao and the only road link for access. Southend, Sask. as well as Brochet, Man. are communities on different ends of this huge lake and some Kinoosao students did come from those communities from time to time. Kinoosao is one of the communities in the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation area, and is situated on the geophysical Reindeer Lake.

As a side note, Kinoosao (Co-op point) community was located north of the "tree line" in the province of Saskatchewan, and as such was north of the "surveyed" agricultural lands which bear township, range and meridian notations. South of the "tree line" are the parkland and grasslands eco-regions, and north is the higher elevation of the province and the boreal forest eco-region. Les
