FRED W. WRIGHT.
Fred W. Wright, jeweler, is one of the energetic and enterprisingciti- zens of Prince Albert. A native of Ontario, his birth occurred in Strath- roy, Middlesex county, on the 23d of November, 1871, and he is a son of Robert and Elizabeth (Mallett) Wright, natives of that province. Robert Wright engaged in the jewelry business in Ontario until 1901, when he came west and located in Medicine Hat, Alberta, where he has continued in the same business and has achieved substantial success. Mrs. Wright is also living and they are prominent and highly esteemed citizens of Medicine Hat. Fred W. Wright received his education in the schools of Chesley, Bruce county, Ontario, and after graduating from high school learned the trade of a jeweler and watchmaker. He followed that line of work at Saginaw, Michigan, for three years but in February, 1889, removed to Brandon, Manitoba, where he worked as a journeyman in various places, including Deloraine, Melita, Souris and Brandon. In October, 1893, he came to Prince Albert, being one of the pioneer settlers of the province of Sas- katchewan. When he came here the present prosperous towns of Saska- toon and Rosthern were not in existence. For one year Mr. Wright worked for George W. Baker and subsequently purchased the jewelry business of Way & lngham, which he is still conducting. He built his present store building in 1912, and he has a modern store and carries a large and complete stock. Mr. Wright is a business man of ability and enterprise, and believes that satisfied patrons are the best advertisement; that he has profited by the practical test of this belief is manifest in his extensive and ever-increasing trade. In April, 1897, Mr. Wright was married to Miss Alexena McGregor, a daughter of Duncan and Emily McGregor, natives of Aberdeen, Scotland, who came to Canada at a very early date and located in Ontario. Mr. McGregor was a contractor, and about 1882 he came to Prince Albert and was prominent in business circles here until his death in 1906. Mrs. Mc Gregor was born in Carleton Place, Ontario, and died in June, 1913. To Mr. and Mrs. Wright three children have been born: Fred R., whose birth occurred in July, 1904, is attending a special school in New York; Alexena died when one year of age; and Emily died at the age of one and one-half years. The political allegiance of Mr. Wright is given to the Liberal party and he maintains an active interest in party affairs. He served on the city council for seven years and is now a member of the hospital board. Fraternally he is identified with the Masons and socially is connected with the Keewatin Club, of which he is president, the Prince Albert Golf Club, and the Rotary Club. He is interested in all outdoor sports and in his early manhood was an enthusiastic lacrosse player. The religious faith of Mr. and Mrs. Wright is that of the Presbyterian church.
