ARDELLIS 0. WHITMAN.
Ardellis 0. Whitman is one of the leading and prosperous business
men of Yorkton, where he is actively identified with the insurance busi-
ness. He is also an extensive landowner. He was born in Nova Scotia
on the 1st of September, 1876, a son of William and Emma (Durling)
Whitman, likewise natives of Nova Scotia. For twenty years the father
engaged in fruit raising, in which he achieved success.
In the pursuit of his education Ardellis 0. Whitman attended the
public schools of his birthplace. In 1898 he came west and located in
Rapid City, Manitoba, where he remained until 1899, in which year he
came to Yorkton. Since coming to this community he has been interested
in land, both as an owner and a developer. He owns much fine land in
the district, portions of which he disposes of from time to time. In
1917 he entered the insurance business and has built up a remarkably
successful enterprise. As a business man Mr. Whitman is thoroughly
reliable and his honesty in all the relations of life has been one of the im-
portant factors in his substantial success.
In 1900 Mr. Whitman was married to Miss Etta Arnold, the ceremony
being performed in Nova Scotia, and they have three children: Orman,
Ivie, and Gene. In his political views Mr. Whitman is a Liberal and he
is a firm believer in the principles of that party as factors in good gov-
ernment. He has never been too busy to discharge his duties as a citizen
and for ten years he was active as deputy sheriff, serving from 1908 to
1918. His religious faith is that of the Baptist church and he is an active
member of the Board of Trade. Socially he is identified with the Golf
Club, and he is an enthusiast of that sport and also of curling.
