
T. PRICE THOMAS.
One of the representative insurance men of Saskatoon and the province
is T. Price Thomas, manager of the Excelsior Life Insurance Company,
with offices in the Canadian Pacific Railroad building. He was born in
Court Henry, Carmarthen, South Wales, on the 12th of October, 1880,
a son of George P. and Sarah (Morgan) Thomas, of Llandilo, South Wales.
The father learned building contracting in early life and continued in that
line of work for many years. Some years ago he retired from active
business life and is still residing in Llandilo, South Wales. Mrs. Thomas
died in September, 1915.
In the pursuit of his education T. Price Thomas attended the National
schools of Court Henry and Llanegwad, South Wales, and was a pupil of
W. D. Jenkins, Esquire, M. S. A. and M. R. S. I., and he was also a pupil
of Prof. W. Jones, Esquire, A. R. C. A., headmaster of the School of
Science & Art at Carmarthen, Wales. He was a pupil of Dr. Richard
Jones, member of the Royal College of Surgeons, Licentiate, Royal College
of Physicians and Licentiate, Society of Apothecaries. Mr. Thomas stud-
ied building construction and architecture, sanitation and public health
and secured a diploma from the Royal Sanitary Institute of London, Eng
land, at the Cardiff University in July, 1904. In 1905 he made a trip
to Canada, sailing on the 7th of May, 1905, on the Dominion liner, the
Kensington, for Winnipeg, and there he joined the Canadian Pacific Rail-
road engineering department, with which he remained two seasons. He
then entered the engineering department of the Northern Pacific Railroad,
and there served until October, 1909, when he accepted a position as
agency inspector for the Excelsior Life Insurance Company, with head-
quarters in Winnipeg. His territory covered Manitoba and a part of
Saskatchewan. In May, 1911, he was made provincial manager for Sas-
katchewan, with headquarters in Saskatoon and has since held this impor-
tant position. Mr. Thomas has always applied himself closely to the
task at hand and has won well-merited success in the insurance business,
and is readily conceded to be one of its most representative members In
the city and province. He won the Silver Challenge cup put up by the
Excelsior Life Insurance Company in 1916 and 1917 and was second in
the race for the cup in 1918 and 1919. He has been making records among
the Excelsior Life divisions since that time. The cup is awarded on the
basis of the largest amount of business paid for in relation to allotment.
On the 15th of March, 1912, Mr. Thomas was married to Miss Rosa
C. Bolton, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bolton, J. P., Saltcoats,
Saskatchewan. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas have one child: Gwendolyn, whose
birth occurred on the 15th of September, 1914. The political allegiance
of Mr. Thomas is given to the Liberal party and he has firm belief in the
principles of that party as factors in good government. He has never
sought nor desired political preferment, but is essentially public-spirit~
and gives his support to movements for the benefit of the community.
The religious faith of Mr. Thomas is that of the Anglican church and he
is a member of St. John's Cathedral Corporation in this city, where he has
been one of the vestrymen for many years. Fraternally he is identified
with the Masons and holds membership in Imperial Lodge, No.60, An-
cient Free & Accepted Masons. Along strictly professional lines he is
identified with the Life Underwriters Association of Canada, and is a
member of Excel Club (100,000). Socially he holds membership in the Sas-
katoon Club, is a member of the Saskatoon Board of Trade and a member
of the Canadian Club.
