GEORGE ALBERT MUNROE, D. D. S.
Dr. George Albert Munroe has engaged in the practice of dentistry in Saskatoon since 1904 and he is one of this city's most highly esteemed citizens. He was born at St. Elmo, Glengarry county, Ontario, in Oc- tober, 1877, a son of William and Janet (McEwen) Munroe, who were born in Glengarry county, where for many years the father was engaged in cheese manufacturing. His death occurred on the 11th of December, 1921. He was one of the leading citizens of the community in which he resided for so many years. Mrs. Munroe survives her husband and she is living at Edmonton, Alberta. Further mention of them is made in the sketch of Dr. H. E. Munroe to be found elsewhere in this work. In the pursuit of his early education George Albert Munroe attended the public schools of his birthplace and subsequently enrolled in the Royal College of Dental Surgeons, from which institution he was grad- uated with the L. D. S. and D. D. S. degrees in April, 1903. In 1904 Dr. Munroe came to Saskatoon and has since practiced here, having built up an extensive and growing patronage. He has been a constant student of his profession and his skill has been widely and readily recognized. He is a veteran of the Great war. In 1915 he put all personal interests aside and enlisted and served in the Tenth Canadian Field Ambulance. He went overseas the following year, and served until the close of the war. On the 19th of September, 1904, at Sandringham, Dr. Munroe was married to Miss Catherine Aird and they have one child: Gladys Grace. Mrs. Munroe is a woman of culture and refinement and she is prominent in the club and social circles of this city. In his political views Dr. Munroe is a Conservative and he maintains an active interest in local affairs. For three years he was alderman of Saskatoon and he has been an influential factor in many movements for the betterment of the com- munity. He is a member of the senate of the University of Saskatchewan. His religious faith is that of the Presbyterian church, and fraternally he is identified with the Masons, in which he is past master, and he is past grand superintendent of the Royal Arch Masons.
