CHARLES E. MAGRATH.
Among the men whose ability, enterprise and progressive spirit have gained them prominence as leading business men of Yorkton is Charles E. Magrath, district representative of the Great-West Life Assurance Company. He was born in Dublin, Ireland, on the 2d of June, 1866, a son of William Miler and Emily Florence (Sadleir) Magrath, likewise natives of that country. The father was educated for the ministry and his first appointment was to Christ church, Barrie, Ontario; later he was rector of the Church of the Redemption, in Brooklyn, New York, and St Paul's church, Westminster, British Columbia. He remained there for some time after his wife and children came to the Yorkton district but subsequently joined them. He was residing in Yorkton at the time of his death in 1912, as was Mrs. Magrath, who died in November, 1916. In the acquirement of his education Charles E. Magrath attended the Wellesley public school of Toronto, and in 1884, together with his broth- ers, homesteaded some land at Crescent Lake. For sixteen years Mr. Magrath has engaged in the life insurance business in Yorkton and on February 1, 1923, he took over the Pawlett agency. His sons are associ- ated with him in the business, which is managed by his eldest son, Jack G. Magrath. In 1894 Mr. Magrath was married to Miss Annie W. Blake, a native of Melbourne, Australia, and a daughter of the late Thomas and Annie Blake of Saltcoats, where for many years her father was engaged in agri- cultural pursuits. To Mr. and Mrs. Magrath five children have been born, three of whom are living: Jack Gerald; Allan U. and Mildred. Mrs. Magrath died on September 29, 1923. Mr. Magrath is essentially public-spirited and as a member of the Rotary Club he is interested in those things which stand for the best in the upbuilding of Yorkton and its vicinity. He is likewise a member of the Board of Trade. Fraternally he is identified with the Masons, and he is a Noble of Khartoum Shrine at Winnipeg. The religious faith of the Magrath family is that of the Anglican church. Mr. Magrath possesses the energy and purpose that lead to successfulaccomplishment in any field of endeavor and each year is witnessing a marked advance in his business career.
