Joseph Emile Lussier has an extensive and important practice in
Prince Albert as senior member of the firm of Lussier & March and he
is one of the substantial barristers at the district and provincial bars.
He was born in St. Gerard, Wolfe county, Quebec, on the 14th of Janu-
ary, 1890, a son of George Adolphe and Agnes (Des Jardins) Lussier,
natives of Quebec and members of old and honored families of that prov-
ince. Mr. and Mrs. George A. Lussier reside in St. Gerard, where he is
a merchant, timber contractor and farmer. He is a man of fine business
ability and a public~spirited citizen, and has the confidence and esteem
of all who know him.
Joseph Emile Lussier received his early education in the rural schools
near St. Gerard and for four years attended the St. Charles College at
Sherbrooke, Quebec. Later he entered the Laval University in Quebec
and was graduated from that institution in 1908, with the B. A. degree.
He came to Prince Albert the same year and was articled to the late
Frank W. Haliday, with whom he remained for some time. Subsequently
he was with J. M. Crerar of Humboldt for a few months and then was
for four years private secretary to Attorney-General W. F. A. Turgeon,
continuing his study of law all this time. He was admitted to the bar
in January of the year 1913 and practiced first at Rosthern, where he
remained until the spring of 1919. He then returned to Prince Albert
and has since practiced here. He is senior member of the firm of Lussier
& March and Mr. March is in charge of the firm's office at Rosthern,
while Mr. Lussier takes care of the large clientele in Prince Albert. On
first coming to Prince Albert, Mr. Lussier formed a partnership with
C. L. Riach and at the end of eighteen months he associated himself with
Arthur Frame and A. C. March, and that connection was maintained until
Mr. Frame was obliged to withdraw as the result of failing health, and
the firm style became Lussier & March. Mr. Lussier is a man of high
intellectual attainments. When he first took up residence in Prince
Albert he spoke very little English, but since that time he has become
very familiar with the language and speaks it fluently. He has won
considerable reputation as a public speaker and is frequently called upon
to address assemblages in various cities. He also has a considerable
knowledge of German and Russian. He is a splendid example of the
cultured and refined French~Canadian gentleman.
On the 16th of January, 1912, Mr. Lussier was married to Miss
Elizabeth Irvine and they have two children: Charles Edward, born on
the 8th of February, 1913; and Mary Margaret Irene, who was born on
the 22nd of August, 1916. Mr. Lussier has always given his political
allegiance to the Liberal party and maintains an active interest in civic
affairs. For five years during his residence in Rosthern he served as
aecretary-treasurer of the Liberal Association. He was the unsuccessful
candidate of his party in Cumberland constituency at the by-election for
the Provincial House in 1922. Fraternally he is identified with the
Knights of Columbus and he is a member of the Prince Albert Tennis
Club and an enthusiast of all outdoor sports. His religious faith is that
of the Catholic church. Mr. Lussier has continued a student of his pro-
fession and as a criminal lawyer has become widely known. He is one
of the representative members of the Dominion Bar Association, the
Saskatchewan Bar Association and the Prince Albert Bar Association.
