James Grierson, lumber dealer and hardware merchant of White- wood, was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, on the 3d of April, l857, his par- ents being natives of that country, who lived there throughout their lives. They were well known and highly esteemed citizens of the com- munity in which they resided. For about a year he engaged in carpenter work in Yorkton and subsequently came to Whitewood, where for four or five years he en- gaged in building and contracting. Subsequently he located on a farm and raised the first potatoes in this district. About 1881 he made his initial step as a lumber dealer and later as a hardware merchant and has achieved substantial success in both connections, being one of the progressive and representative business men of Whitewood. Mr. Grierson was married to Miss Charlotte Robertson, a native of Scotland. To them ten children have been born, six of whom are liv- ing. The Grierson twins have the distinction of being the first twins born in this district. Mr. Grierson has always been interested in politi cal affairs and he was the first mayor of the town of Whitewood. He has also held other town offices and has been a dominant factor in the development and improvement of the community.
