
JOHN R. COWLEY.
J.R. Cowley, city electrical engineer of Saskatoon, was born in Dun-
dee, Scotland, in September, 1882, his father, William Cowley, and his
mother, Catherine Scott Cowley, also being natives of that country. Mr.
Cowley (Senior) was a manufacturer of jute sacks in the city of Dundee
for many years, his death occurring in 1917.
J.R. Cowley received his earlier education at the Dundee Harris
Academy, subsequently taking up the study of engineering at the Heriot-
Watt College and the University of Edinburgh. Apprenticed to a firm of
electrical engineers in the city of Dundee, he was afterwards employed
in the power plants of the city of Perth, The Lanarkshire Tramways
Company and The Clyde Valley Power Company. Leaving Scotland to
come to Canada in 1911, he was engaged for a time with the Canadian
Light & Power Company of Montreal, resigning in 1913 to take up the
position of assistant city electrical engineer at Saskatoon. In 1918 he
was appointed city electrical engineer.
Mr. Cowley was married to Miss Blanche Sasseville of Montreal, in
1913. He is a member of the Presbyterian church.
