HARRY C. ADAMS.
A popular public official of Battleford is Harry C. Adams, town clerk, who has held this office for many years and has rendered the best of serv- ice. He was born in London, England, on the 2d of September, 1869, a son of W. H. and Charlotte (Drayson) Adams, natives of England. Mr. W. H. Adams was a captain in the Twenty-third Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He came to Canada in 1883, and located in Winnipeg, where he was in charge of the Hudson's Bay store for some twenty-one years, and then resigned and returned to London, where he was living at the time of his death in January, 1910. Mrs. Adams continues to make her home in London. Harry C. Adams received his education in the Kensington grammar school, London, and in 1885 came to Canada, arriving here in May. He went to work for the Hudson's Bay Company in Winnipeg, was trans- ferred to various other places and remained with the company until 1897. He was accountant in the company's offices in Battleford from the 22d of March, 1894, until he resigned. He then became an employe in the general mercantile business of James Clinkskill of Battleford, where he remained until 1909, when he went to work for the town as secretary treasurer, which office is now that of town clerk. He has since been active in the discharge of the duties of this important office, with the exception of the years from 1912 to 1914, when he was granted a leave of absence because of failing health. During those years he operated a ranch some twenty-five miles south of here. In September, 1898, Mr. Adams was married to Miss Emma Pare and they became the parents of five children, two of whom are living: Edith, attending the Nurses Training School at St. Paul's Hospital, Sas- katoon; and Ailsa, a student in the Battleford schools. Marguerite, the first born child, died in October, 1902, when two years of age; Charles died in September, 1909, at the age of seven months; and Louis died in March, 1908, when but one day old. Mrs. Adams died on the 25th of November, 1910, after an operation. Mr. Adams was again married in September, 1914, Miss Mabel Spencer becoming his wife. They have one child: Hilda, whose birth occurred on the 17th of June, 1915. Mr. Adams is a member of the Canadian Club and is one of the direc- tors of the Agricultural Society. He is secretary of the Boy Scouts and Red Cross organizations here. Mr. Adams' hobby is gardening and he has made a deep and thorough study of that line of work. He is a member of the Church of England, of which he is warden and treasurer. Bibliography follows:
