THE LATE MAJOR BELL


Major Bell was certainly an up-to-date man, but in one sense he was
born hundreds of years too late. He should have been one of the knights
of old. Clad in knightly armor, or possibly without it he would have tilted
with a light heart and steady hand at all comers.  A certain incident,
extremely unknightly on the surface, but very characteristic of the man,
will throw a good deal of light on his make-up. He. told me this story, one
