Lee Gisi
Lee Gisi, an engineer with the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince
Albert, has been a community volunteer
for 50 years, starting in the Tisdale area with rural telephones and the
Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. While
living at Clemenceau, Saskatchewan, he was involved in rural
electrification, the board of trade, school
board, sports and church activities. After moving to Prince Albert in
1966, Mr. Gisi served as president of
the East End Community Club. He led campaigns to build the club's first
covered rink and the city's 3,500
seat Communiplex, a community hall, a day care centre and a curling rink.
Lee Gisi was a city councillor in Prince Albert for 15 years. He also
served on the school board, library
board, Victoria Union hospital board, police commission and regional
health board. He was provincial chair
of regional health boards. He was active for many years in hockey as a
coach and team volunteer. He has
taught firearms safety in schools and first aid and safety rescue in the
army reserve, and has been a
120-time blood donor to the Red Cross. He is an honourary life member of
the Knights of Columbus and the
Prince Albert and District Labour Council.

MAGDALENA FILIPOWICH
Mr. Walt Lastewka (St. Catharines, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, it was April 16,
1897 in a small village in Austria when a little girl
was born to Pauline and Thomas Kowalchuk. They named her Magdalena.
Magdalena sailed to Canada with her family in 1903 and they settled in
Tiny, Saskatchewan. In 1915 Magdalena married
Michael Filipowich. The couple built a small, two-bedroom home in Swan
Plain, Saskatchewan, where they had 10 children.
The little house still stands as a reminder of the hard work and
dedication of one of this country's great families.
Magdalena has lived in my riding of St. Catharines since 1956. She now
boasts 37 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren and
24 great-great-grandchildren.
This Sunday, Magdalena Filipowich and her many friends and family will
celebrate her 100th birthday. I want to join with them
in this special celebration and say to Magdalena happy birthday,
congratulations and God bless.

Historical Date/s: 1970's Type of Event: The refinery and fire siren
I remember when it was operational and I remeber
the fires that used to be there. I remember all the cars that used to
show up to watch. I was quite young at the time, I'm 31 now.
I also remember the fire siren going off every 12 noon and at 5 o clock
every saturday, this was my reminder to get home and
watch bugs bunny :)

The Tire
Family you have posted on your website as being near Dafoe, Saskatchewan
is not entirely correct. It is close to 30 miles from Dafoe near the
former hamlet of Daphne, Saskatchewan. Our farm is about 3 miles form
the "Tire Family". The Ron Bohnen Family used to operate a Gas
Station there years ago. I remember that they used to have a variety of
different animals inside as well such a monkeys, parrots, etc. Ron used
to drive the school bus for the area.
