It was built by the Church (St Andrew's - Church of England = Episcopalian) in 1847 and survived until Easter 1957 when it was closed and the children transferred to a newer and bigger school in a nearby village. Like the one room schoolhouse in Fairlight, Assiniboia, North-West Territories, Canada it was essentially an all age school (i.e. children from infants to 14 years old) but had two schoolrooms and two teachers. The photo shows the buildings as they are now - the school itself to the left and the schoolmaster's house (with the green door) facing you. Both have been converted into dwellings but retain many of the old features. |
