2005 is Saskatchewan's Centennial, a year of celebration. To mark the event, the Biggar Museum and Gallery in collaboration with the Biggar Branch Saskatchewan Genealogical Society is undertaking a project to create a heritage album of present and past families or individuals of Biggar and area. Some families have lived in Biggar and area for several generations, or lived here awhile and moved onto other parts of the world, while others have only lived here the current generation. Anyone who has lived in Biggar and area, be they businessmen, railroaders, school teachers, employees of Biggar businesses, retirees who retired to Biggar, or farmers in the area during the past 100 years are invited to submit their family history. These will be exhibited during the centennial and preserved for future generations at the Biggar Museum and Gallery.
A fee of $25.00 will be charged for each heritage album page (one side of sheet) to cover project costs. The fee includes one heavyweight, ivory, acid-free sheet 19 1/2 inches by 25 1/2 inches, to mount items, a work sheet the size of an album page to use to organize materials before mounting items on album page, 5 sheets (letter size 8 1/2" x 11") of acid free paper for journaling (for narrative and captions). Additional letter size paper will be available at 10 cents each. One album page may not be enough for you to tell your family history. Additional album sheets can be purchased for $25.00.
Each family/individual history can be showcased using biographical sketches and family stories, photographs, documents and newspaper clippings. The photographs, documents and clippings will provide the visual picture and interest for the names, dates and places in your story.
We hope everyone will join in making the Biggar heritage album centennial exhibit the biggest and best ever. We would appreciate if everyone would let their relatives and friends, former Biggar residents living out of town, province or country know about the project.
