ANTONIW - Bill Antoniw, age 73 of Kelvington and formerly of Preeceville, died on July 21, 1995 in the Kelvingdell Lodge. Funeral service held in the Descent of the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Church, Checkow district, with Rev. J. Rac officiating. Born on April 14, 1922 in Preeceville, he was educated at Checkow School. He farmed most of his life and in 1969 he moved to Preeceville and then worked for Morris Industry and the Department of Highways in the Yorkton area. He suffered a stroke in 1980 and had been living in the Kelvingdell Lodge until his death. Predeceased by his father, Mike in 1963; his mother, Jenny in 1957; three brothers, Jack in 1972, Metro in infancy and Peter in 1991; a sister, Stella in infancy, he is survived by two sisters, Lillian (Clifford) Hearn of Winnipeg and Stella (Mike) Wilgosh of Preeceville.

BARCHUK – John Barchuk, 66 of Preeceville, died on February 21, 1983, in the Yorkton Union Hospital. He was born on March 2, 1916 to parents, Nick and Mary (Dron) Barchuk in the Olesha district, north of Buchanan. He married Stella Prestie on October 17, 1937 and they farmed west of Preeceville. In 1955, he started working for CN as a section labourer at Tadmore. He worked at Kelvington, Sturgis, Tallpines, Reserve, Hudson Bay and other places. Due to his health, he took disability pension in March 1978, but continued to live on the farm. Predeceased by his parents; a brother, Bill; two sons, Orest in 1940 and Lawrence in 1965; he is survived by his wife; two sons, Thomas of Edmonton and Orest of Preeceville; two brothers, Joe and Mike of Preeceville and two grandchildren.

BARCHUK - Orest (6 May 1942 - September 2012). Orest Barchuk was born in Preeceville to John and Sophie Barchuk on May 6, 1942. He attended school in Chechow and then went farming on his dad's land. He sold the farm in 1999 and moved to Preeceville. Orest spent many hours having coffee with his friends at the Century House. He spent the last years of his life at the Preeceville Nursing Home. He was predeceased by his father John in 1982 and his mother Sophie in 2000. Orest had three brothers. He was predeceased by his brother Orest in 1940 and his brother Lawrence in 1965. Orest is survived by his brother Tom (Shalon) of St. Albert, AB, his nieces Ashley and Brittany and nephews, Cory and Jeff. Funeral service was held in the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home with Fr. Basil Malowany officiating. Interment followed in the Chechow Cemetery.

BARCHUK - Sophie "Stella" (nee Prestie) Barchuk, 85 passed away August 15, 2000. Services were held from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church in Preeceville. Burial was in Chechow Cemetery. Born January 15, 1915 in the Checkow district, west of Preeceville, she attended Checkow and Preeceville schools before helping her parents on the farm. She married John Barchuk on October 17, 1937 and they were members of Checkow Church. She moved to the Norquay Health Centre in April 1999. Predeceased by her husband, John in 1983, her parents Wasyl Prestie in 1959, her mother Maria (Panasuik) in 1962, two sons, Orest in 1940 and Lawrence in 1965, five brothers, Steve and Harry both in childhood and Pete, Mike and Philip and a sister Polly. She is survived by two sons, Orest of Preeceville and Thomas of Edmonton; a sister Belle Homeniuk of Winnipeg; two grandsons, and one great-grandchild.

BOYKO – Ivan (John) Boyko was born in the Ukraine in 1899 and came to Canada with his parents in 1904. He attended Chechow School and farmed with his father. He played the fiddle for dances and his own enjoyment. After his father died he moved to Preeceville and lived with his mother. John passed away in 1946.

BOYKO – Nadia Boyko was born to parents Stella and Ted Boyko in 1941 and died the same year. She was buried in the Chechow Cemetery.

BOYKO – Nikola (Nick) Boyko was born in 1874 in the village of Chechow, Ukraine. With his wife Parashka and two sons, John and Mike, they immigrated to Canada in 1904 and took a homestead in the Chechow district. Nick was on the first Chechow School board and an active member of the Chechow Church, where he served as a priest’s assistant for many years. They were blessed with eleven children. Three children died in infancy. Nick passed away in 1937.

BOYKO – Stella Boyko, 79 of Yorkton and formerly of Preeceville, died on May 11, 1998 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Funeral held at the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church in Preeceville, with burial in Chechow Cemetery. She was born July 1, 1918 in the Preeceville district. She attended Beaver Bluff School. She married Ted Boyko on Feb. 14, 1937 in the Preeceville district. They farmed for 22 years and moved to Yorkton in 1959. Predeceased by her parents, her husband, Ted in 1977, a brother, Mike, two sisters, Mary and Pauline and two daughters, Nadia in 1941 and Nadine in 1995, she is survived by three daughters, Elaine (Jack) Blair of Minitonas, Agnes (Lyle) Swan of Preeceville and Lucy (Bill) Sparrow of Yorkton; a brother, Bill (Mary) Demetrow of Preeceville; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

BOYKO – Steve Boyko was born May 30, 1929 to parents Mike and Stella (Blahay) Boyko in the Chechow district. He died in Preeceville on July 1, 1930 and was buried in the Chechow Cemetery.

BOYKO – Todos "Ted" Boyko 62 of Yorkton and formerly of Preeceville district, passed away on November 7, 1977 in the Yorkton Union Hospital after a long illness. Funeral held in the Ukrainian Catholic Church at Preeceville and burial in Chechow Cemetery. Born in the Chechow district, he married Stella Demetrow in 1937 and they farmed in the area until 1959. He served on a school board and was active in church work. In 1959 they moved to Yorkton where they operated a boarding house and he did carpentry work. In 1962 he completed a barbering course and was barber at CFS Yorkton and operated his own barbershop and pool hall at Theodore until he retired due to ill health in 1975. Predeceased by his parents; an infant daughter in 1941; two brothers, Mike and John, and a sister Nettie Holowachuk, he is survived by his wife; four daughters, Elaine (Jack) Blair of Minitonas, Agnes (Lyle) Swan of Preeceville, Miss Nadine Boyko of Melville and Lucy (Bill) Sparrow of Yorkton; four sisters, Doris Mateush and Stella Shuya of Preeceville and Mary Pilchak of Quesnel, BC and Polly Steciuk of Winnipeg and 12 grandchildren.

CHALUPIAK – Steve Chalupiak, 82 of Preeceville and formerly of Ketchen, passed away on September 28, 1976 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held at Chekow Ukrainian Catholic Church. He was born in Austria in 1894, and came to Canada in 1905 with his parents. He lived in the Ketchen district until the spring of 1976, when he moved to Preeceville. Predeceased by his wife, Stella in 1958 and a grandson, Lawrence in 1966, he is survived by five sons, William of Yorkton, Walter of Ketchen, Billy of Hazel Dell and Mike and Joe of Preeceville; two daughters, Mary (John) Sawka of Yorkton and Ann (Lawrence) Satherstrom of Sudbury; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

CHIMKO – Harry Chimko, 74 of Preeceville, passed away April 5, 1988 in the Yorkton Hospital. Born on December 12, 1913 at Preeceville, he was educated at Chechow School. He worked in lumber camps in the Reserve area for a short period and then farmed most of his life until he moved to Preeceville in 1974. He retired from farming in 1980. He married Annie Barteski at Chechow Church on September 18, 1937. He was an executive member of the Chechow Church and a member of the Chechow ball team. Predeceased by his parents, John and Frozina, two brothers, Alex and Bill and a sister, Irene, he is survived by his wife, Annie; a son, Mike of Preeceville; two daughters, Olga Evans of Preeceville and Jean Kotyk of Rama; a sister, Michalena of Yorkton an four grandchildren.

CHIMKO - Mike Chimko, 61 of Preeceville, passed away on March 23, 2002 in the University Hospital at Saskatoon. Funeral held in Preeceville Funeral Home Chapel. Born on October 11, 1940 to Harry and Anne Chimko in Preeceville, he was educated at Chechow School and Preeceville High School. He worked in the construction industry in Calgary and Leaf Rapids, MB and worked on the construction of the dam at Nipawin. He also worked in the logging industry in Prince George, BC and at A&D Pump Service in Preeceville. On May 10, 1986, he was married to Kitty Lee at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Preeceville. Predeceased by his father in 1988, he is survived by his mother, Anne, his wife Kitty; two sons, Matthew and Waylon; two sisters, Olga Evans of Preeceville and Jean Kotyk of Buchanan.

CHORNEY – Jenny (nee Shpak) Chorney, 72 of Preeceville, passed away September 26, 1978 in the Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held in the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Preeceville. Born in the village of Berbaten, district Buchach in Western Ukraine, she came to Canada in 1907 with her parents, Jacob and Pauline Shpak, and they homesteaded in the Mitchelview district northwest of Buchanan. In 1923 she married Dmytro Melnyk and they farmed in the Rockford area. He died in 1940 and in 1944, she married Bill Chorney. They farmed in the Chehow district until 1964, when they retired and moved to Preeceville. Predeceased by her father in 1951; her mother in 1957; two sons, Tom in 1965 and Orest in 1960; a sister Anne Anderson in May 1978; her first husband and her second husband in 1975, she is survived by three daughters, Emily McGinnis of Barrhead, AB, Anne Bjornson of Quesnel and Alice (Ron) Thompson of Green Court, AB; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A stepson, Steve Chorney; four stepdaughters, Mary Dexter, Yvonne Hoffman, Pauline Korchinos and Stella Krochak; 15 step-grandchildren; a brother Nick Shpak of Porcupine Plain; six sisters, Rosie Fedesenko of Langley, BC, Myrtle Hrynyk and Nettie Sokocoff of Wadena, Alice Story of Edmonton, Mary Shpak and Katie Krahn of Winnipeg.

CHORNEY – Bill Chorney 71 of Preeceville died on January 17, 1975 in the Preeceville Hospital. Born at Hryhoriw, Ukraine, he married Julia Baron in 1922 and came to Canada in 1937, settling in the Chehow district, where he farmed until retirement. He moved to Preeceville in 1964. His first wife died in 1939 and he married Jenny Melnyk (Shpak) in 1944. Besides his wife he is survived by four daughters, Pauline (Sam) Korchinos of Preeceville, Stella (Mike) Krochuk and Mary (Joe) Dexter of Toronto and Yvonne (Kirt) Hoffman of Edmonton; a son, Steve Chorney of Kitimat; three stepdaughters, Emily Hryniuk of Mayorthorpe, AB, Anne Bjornson of Quesnel and Alice Thompson of Green court AB; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A son Orest, in 1960 and a stepson, Thomas Melnyk of Prince George, predeceased him in 1965

DERIN – Annie Derin, 87 of Preeceville, died on February 27, 1990 in Preeceville Hospital. Funeral held at Ukrainian Catholic Church with burial in Chechow Cemetery. Born on May 7, 1902 in Austria, she was educated at Orange Vale School. She married John in November of 1918 and worked with him on the family farm. She moved from the farm to Preeceville in 1965. She was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church. Predeceased by her parents, Hnat and Olena; her husband, John; a grandson, Robbie; a son Edward and four brothers, Malcolm, Nick, Steve and Mike, she is survived by two sons, Victor and Frank both of Winnipeg; six daughters, Helen, Maggie, Nellie, Polly of USA, Rose of Vancouver and Hazel of Overflowing River; two sister’s, Sophie of Invermay and Nettie of Canora; 14 grandchildren an 7 great-grandchildren.

DERIN – Joseph Derin was born in the Ketchen district in 1907 the son of Stephen and Phillipian Derin. He attended Nitchi hills School. He married Polly Mateush in 1931 and farmed in the Ketchen district until 1965 when they retired and moved to Preeceville. Joseph passed away January 27, 1976. Funeral service held in the Ukrainian Catholic Church at Preeceville. Predeceased by his father in 1919, his mother in 1957, a sister Stella in 1958, a brother John in 1965; a sister Adeline in 1972, he is survived by his wife; a daughter Lillian and her husband, Mie Petrucha; two granddaughters Sharon and Janice of Preeceville; a sister Mrs. Frances Prestie of Preeceville and a brother Lodic of Ketchen.

DERIN – Polly (nee Mateush) Derin, 91, of Preeceville passed away December 3, 2005. Funeral services were held from Preeceville Ukrainian Catholic Church. Burial was in the Checkow Cemetery. Born on August 24, 1914, in the Checkow district to Peter and Caroline Mateush, she attended Chekow School. She married Joe Derin in the Chekow district on May 31, 1931 and they farmed in the district. Predeceased by her husband, Joe, her parents, a brother Mike, three sisters, Nettie Kuzminski, Ann Luciw and Mary Romanyshyn, she is survived by a daughter, Lillian (Mike) Pietrucha of Preeceville; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

GULKA – Harry A. Gulka, 58 of Preeceville, passed away September 25, 1989 at his rural residence. Funeral service held in the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church. Born September 30, 1930 in Preeceville, he was educated at Chekow School. He worked with his parents on the family farm until their retirement when he took over the operation. He married Edith Pacholko at Saint Mary’s Church in Yorkton on June 12, 1962. He was a member of the Chekow church parish. Predeceased by his parents; a brother, Phillip; and a sister, Pauline Yachyshyn; he is survived by his wife; a son, Terry of Edmonton; two daughters, Mary-Anne of Edmonton and Virginia of Preeceville; three brothers, William (Bella) of Yorkton, Peter (Anna) of Yorkton and Steve (Ethel) of Preeceville; four sisters, Stella Skwark of Melfort, Julia Skwark of Melfort and Helen Monych of Foam Lake.

HOLOWACHUK – Nastya "Nettie" (nee Boyko) Holowachuk, 65, passed away on December 29, 1970 in the Canora Union Hospital after a short illness. Funeral service held in Preeceville Transfiguration Church and burial in the Chechow Cemetery. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nick Boyko, she married Mike Holowachuk in 1923 and lived in the Ketchen district until 1961 when she retired from the farm and moved to Preeceville. Predeceased by her husband in 1961, she is survived by a son Nick of Preeceville; two daughters, Mary Sawka of Nipawin and Nellie of Toronto and seven grandchildren.

HOLOWACHUK – Nick Holowchuk, 76, of Preeceville passed away August 7, 2001. Funeral services were held at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church. Burial was in Chechow Cemetery. Born May 14, 1925 near Ketchen, he attended Woodrock School and helped on the family farm. He worked for several farmers in the district and purchased a farm in 1953. He married Hazel Baron on July 15, 1950 at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Preeceville and was a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, Club 60 and United Grain Growers. Predeceased by his parents, Mike and Nettie Holowachuk, an infant brother, Peter, he is survived by his wife; three sons, Lawrence of Victoria, Larry of Prince Albert and Lance of Regina; a daughter, Shirley of Sturgis; two sisters Mary Sawka and Nellie Holowachuk of Ontario and 11 grandchildren.

LUCIW – Anna (nee Mateyusch). Funeral service for Anna Luciw, 93 of the Preeceville Lion’s Hostel, who died March 25, 1996, was held March 28 in Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church. Burial was in Chechow Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. She was born in Ivanivaka Povit Trembowia to Peter and Caroline Mateush. In 1910 she came to Canada with her parents and one sister to the Chechow district. On November 22, 1920 she married John Luciw in the Checkow Church. They had a homestead in the district and farmed until 1957 when they moved into Hazel dell. She moved into the Lion’s Hostel in September 1995. She was active in her church and enjoyed gardening. Predeceased by her parents; a sister, Nettie; a brother in infancy; her husband John in 1976; and two grandsons and one great-grandson, she is survived by five daughters, Stella Chalupiak, Mary Antonio, Pauline Urechko, Pearl Pasiechnik, and Caroline Pasiechnik; five sons, Peter, Mike, Joe, Steve and Bill; two sisters, Mary Romanyshyn and Polly Derin; a brother Mike Mateush of Preeceville; 25 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren

LUCIW – John Luciw aged 75 of Hazel Dell, passed away on January 12, 1976 in the Canora Hospital, following a long illness. Funeral held in Hazel Dell Ukrainian Catholic Church and burial in Chehow cemetery. John was born on January 19, 1900, in the village of Buchach in Ukraine. He came to Canada with his parents in 1908 and settled in the Ketchen district. He married Annie Mateush in 1920 and they farmed in the Chehow district. In 1952 he bought a garage in Hazel Dell and he operated it for 20 years. He retired and resided at Hazel Dell. He was a trustee for Chehow School and served as councilor for the RM of Hazel Dell. Predeceased by a brother, Pete in 1956, he is survived by his wife; five sons, Mike of Theodore, Joe of Preeceville and Pete, Steve and Bill of Hazel Dell; five daughters, Mary Antonio of Paswegin, Pearl (Russell) Pasiechnik of Marysville, BC, Pauline (Bill) Urechko of Flin Flon, Carolle Pasiechnik of Canora and Stella (Bill) Chalupiak of Hazel Dell; 26 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and four sisters Myrtle Shepherd of Moose Jaw, Nellie Rehaluk of Preeceville, Polly (Paul) Popowich of Creston, BC, Patrician (John) Dermochid of Porcupine Plain.

PIDHERNY – Fred Pidherny was born in 1866, in the village of Chechow. He came to Canada in 1904, with his wife Theodosia and their two children, Lena and Clara (Tekla) and Fred’s mother, Anna Pidherny. Because wood was a shortage in their native homeland, they selected a homestead, which was heavily treed in the Preeceville area. Fred passed away on August 11, 1939 and was buried at the Chechow Cemetery.

PIDHERNY – Lena Pidherny, 77, of Preeceville, passed away Nov. 2, 1996 in Preeceville Hospital. She was born November 8, 1918 in the Hryhoriw district, she was educated at Hryhoriw School and then worked on the farm in the district. On October 28, 1939, she married Mike Pidherny at Hryhoriw Church. Predeceased by her husband, Mike in 1985; two daughters, Patsy and Sylvia; and four brothers, and three sisters, she is survived by two sons, James (Elizabeth) of Winnipeg and Randy (Barbara) of Preeceville; two daughters, Muriel (Gordon) of Winnipeg and Audrey of Winnipeg; three brothers, Steve of Preeceville, Fred of Dauphin, MB and Paul of Wadena; four sisters, Pauline Rudnitski of Buchanan, Lucy Zazula of Wadena, Olga Berezowski of Prince Albert and Sylvia Roznoski of Prince Albert; and two grandchildren

PIDHERNY – Mike Pidherny, 75 of Preeceville, passed away November 19, 1985 in Preeceville hospital. Funeral service held at Chechow Ukrainian Catholic Church and burial in the parish cemetery. Born on November 4, 1910 in the Preeceville district, he was educated at Chechow School. He married Lena Stefanyshyn on October 28, 1939, at Hryhoriw Church. They farmed in the Chechow district southwest of Preeceville. Predeceased by his father, Fred, in 1939, mother Theodosia (nee Maksymchuk) in 1947, two daughters, Sylvia in 1940 and Patsy in 1957, two sisters, Lena and Clara and a brother, Peter, he is survived by his wife, Lena; two sons, Randy of Preeceville and James of Winnipeg; two daughters, Muriel and Audrey, both of Winnipeg; two sisters, Nellie Gorcha of Canora and Mary Nowolsky of Calgary; and two grandchildren.

PIDHERNY – Theodosia Pidherny was born in 1871 in the village of Zalisia and came to Canada with her husband Fred and two children, Lena and Clara in 1904. Four children were born to them in Canada, Nellie, Mary, Mike and Peter. Theodosia passed away in December 1947.

ROMANYSHYN – Paul Romanyshyn, 68 of Preeceville, passed away June 15, 1983 in the Preeceville Hospital. Funeral service held in Checkow Church. Born September 8, 1914 at Preeceville, he received his education at Chechow School. On October 2, 1937, he married Nellie Holowachuk at Hazel Dell. The couple farmed. Predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Phillip and Andrew an a sister, Mary, he is survived by his wife; a son, Steve of Preeceville; a daughter, Stella Holowachuk of Porcupine Plain; two sisters, Stella of Hudson Bay and Julia of Abbey; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

ROMANYSHYN – Steve Romanyshyn was born on November 27, 1937 on the family farm in the Chechow district to Paul and Nellie (Holowachuk) Romanyshyn. He passed away on September 14, 2008 at his home in Preeceville. Steve grew up in the Chechow district and received his education at Chechow School. He farmed with his father and later on his own until he retired and moved into Preeceville. He always enjoyed going to town and having coffee with his friends and catching up on the latest news. He took great pride in helping to look after Chechow Church and keeping the grass in the church yard and cemetery cut. His father Paul and his brother in-law Mike Holowchuk predeceased Steve. STEFANYSHYN – Maurice Stefanyshyn, age 51 of Winnipeg and formerly of Preeceville, passed away June 13, 1988 at his home. Funeral held in Chechow Ukrainian Catholic Church. Born on January 1, 1937, and raised in the Chechow district, he received his education at Chechow School. He farmed until sudden illness struck. In 1970, he journeyed to Winnipeg to seek lighter employment. He worked on a few jobs until his illness forced him to retire. Predeceased by his father Paul in 1964, his mother, Marcella in 1968, and two brothers, Philip in 1917 an Anton in 1927, he is survived by two sisters, Stella Borysowich of Toronto an Julia Yacishyn of Preeceville; four brothers, Mike of Toronto, Steve of Vernon, William and Raymond of Preeceville.

STEFANYSHYN – Steve Stefanyshyn, 76 of Preeceville died April 28, 2003 in Yorkton Regional Hospital. Services were held from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church and burial was in Chechow Cemetery. Born October 16, 1926 to Paul and Marcella (nee Nazar) Stefanyshyn in the Chechow district near Preeceville, he was educated at Chechow School. After school he worked on the family farm for a few years. Later, he went to Toronto and worked in a furnace factory for about 10 years. He then settled in Vernon, BC for 15 years, before he moved back to the Yorkton area. He played in a band with his brothers, performing at weddings and dances in the area. Predeceased by his parents, five brothers, Walter, Mike and Maurice, and Phillip and Anton in infancy, and one sister, Stella, he is survived by two brothers, Raymond and Bill both of Preeceville, and one sister Julia Yacishyn of Yorkton.

STEFANYSHYN – Walter Stefanyshyn age 57, of Preeceville, passed away on January 13, 1976 in hospital in Saskatoon. Funeral held at Ukrainian Catholic Church and burial in the family plot in Chehow Cemetery. Born to Paul and Marcella Stefanyshyn in 1918, he was raised on a farm in the Chehow area. In 1953 he married Caroline Pasiechnik and they homesteaded in the Ketchen area. In 1962 they moved to Preeceville where he was active as a carpenter and worked in the Preeceville and Sturgis area up to the time of his death. Predeceased by an infant son, Eugene in 1955 and his parents, he is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jane of Saskatoon and Diane of Preeceville; three sons, Jerry, James and Donald of Preeceville; two sisters, Stella Borysovich of Toronto and Julia Yacishyn of Preeceville; five brothers, Mike of Toronto, Maurice of Winnipeg, and Bill, Steve and Raymond of Preeceville.

STEFANYSHYN – Wasyl Stefanyshyn (Bill) 80, of Preeceville passed away on November18, 2004 at the Kamsack Nursing Home. Funeral service was held from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church. Burial was in Chechow Cemetery. Born September 24, 1920 in the Chechow district, southwest of Preeceville, he attended Chechow School. He played the violin and performed at many weddings and dances with his brother, Raymond. He farmed in the Chechow district for most of his life, retiring in 1995. He remained on the farm until his health began to fail. In 2003 he moved to the Kamsack Nursing Home. He was a long-time member of the Chechow Ukrainian Catholic Church. Predeceased by is parents, Paul and Marcella (Nazar) Stefanyshyn, six brothers, Walter, Mike, Maurice and Steve and Philip and Anton in infancy, and two sisters, Stella Borysowich and Julia Yacishyn, he is survived by his brother Raymond (Stefania) of Preeceville.

YACISHYN – Julia Yacishyn, 88, of Yorkton and formerly of Preeceville passed away on May 24, 2004. Services was held from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church. Burial was in the Chechow Cemetery. Born on January 24, 1916 to Paul and Marcella Stefanyshyn in the Preeceville area, she attended Chechow School. She married Michael Yacishyn in November 1944. They farmed in the Preeceville area until 1962, when she moved to Preeceville. She had several jobs such as babysitting, house cleaning and painting. She was a member of the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League. Predeceased by her parents, her husband Michael, a sister Stella Borysowich and six brothers, Walter, Mike, Steve, Maurice, Anthony and Philip, she is survived by a daughter, Sylvia (Robert) Stanowich of Saskatoon, a son Willie (Gerry) of Yorkton; two brothers Wasyl of Kamsack and Raymond (Stefania) of Preeceville; seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

YESNICK – Mike Yesnick, 64 of Preeceville, was found dead in his farm home on May 9, 1980. A graveside service was held on May 13th at Chehow Cemetery. He was born in 1916 on the family homestead five miles south of Ketchen. His parents, Gnat and Elana emigrated from Austria in 1911. Mike attended Orangeville School till he was 15 years old. He then stayed on the farm with his parents. Predeceased by his father in 1946, his mother in 1949 and his brother Malcolm 1906-1933, he is survived by three sisters, Annie Derin of Preeceville, Sophie Gulka of Invermay and Nellie Korchinski of Canora; two brothers, Nick of Spence’s Bridge, BC. and Steve of Snow Lake.

ZABLOTSKY – Mike Zablotsky 89, of Preeceville passed away on May 21, 2002 at the Canora Hospital. Funeral service was held at the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home with Rev. Rac officiating. Burial was in Chechow Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Born September 22, 1912 in Preeceville to Harry and Belle Zablotsky, he was educated at Chechow School. He started working at 16, sawing wood and crushing grain. At 20 he farmed near Ketchen. He married Antonia Baron on June 14, 1941 at the Ukrainian Catholic Church. In the spring of 1945 they bought a farm near Margo, where they farmed until 1966. Semi-retired they moved to Saskatoon, where he worked at Great West Steel from 1967 – 1970. He built houses in 1970 and 1971, when they moved to Preeceville. Predeceased by his parents, sisters Doris and Lena Slubodan, and Ema Dennis, brothers Steve, Nick and Jack, he is survived by his wife Antonia, sons Bill of Preeceville and Ken of Saskatoon, daughter Joan Kokotailo of Riverside, Calif, sister Mary Slobodan of Regina, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
